This deer has been around a while and i just wanted to share some of the history with fellow bowhunters. I'll start with the first pictures of him. The first picture is from 2012.

This is a picture from this summer. All the scaring on his face, neck and even front shoulders... I was kind of taken back by how smart and lucky a buck is to make to this age. I have lots of pictures of him, but everyone is at night. I also have his 2013 left side shed. He Looks like he has been through a lot of battles. I would be honored to take this buck but however it's very unlikely that will happen.

Honestly i'm not the best at age, but even in 2012 he looks mature so i would guess at 6 but probably older.

We have a heavy bodied and horned 8 point. We have tons of pictures of him from 11:00 pm at to 4:00 am. NO other times. Some bucks are unkillable. We would love to kill him but no day time movement at all.

Buckwatch at least 6 I'd say. When they get that old, they move more often during the day. I hope you see him and get a shot. What a buck!!

And that couldn't be further from the truth. Just looked at your recent photo and read your comment. He looks to be on his downfall. But don't be surprised if you see him during daylight. We've had history with deer like this. It's rare they get that old. Smart, smart deer for sure. Good luck to you, if you get anymore pics, post him. I'm pullin for you

To kill these vampire bucks you have to know where he is bedding. Then you have to go in with a climber or better yet sticks and a stand and set up and hunt as close to his bed as possible. This is a high risk/high reward style of hunting. Obviously also best to do in the afternoon. To read a lot of good info from one of the best at this hunting style, go to The Hunting Beast site. There is a wealth of information from Dan Infalt and others that are great at this tactic on that board. I included a link.

My experience on getting close to nocturnal deer is go in the thick stuff on the windiest days where the forecast calls for winds to drop before sunset. Set up while the wind covers the noise, then watch it settle down; if you didn't bump 'em on the way in, the woods tends to come alive after sunset if the wind quiets as predicted. If you picked the right trail, all that's left is remaining undetected and getting off a great shot. It works …. sometimes!
