I built a platform stand 60-100 yards behind my house this summer. A buddy of mine said I should run an extension cord out to the thing and use an electric blanket in the winter :) so I started thinking I dont wanna camo up juat to wrap myself in a gray blanket and I need my arms free so... I think Im going to use a heated seat cover from a car and run it off my lawn tractor battery. The heated cover pulls 3.7Ah and the battery is 35Ah So I should be all good. I can also hook up a solar battery charger to keep it all good.

What do you guys think? Have you ever done any thing like this?

And do hate me for wanting to be warm

Realy???todays woodsman. pathetic! this is a perfect example of todays modern southern new england hunter. Most of your typical CT hunters would starve in the real wilderness. without bait and confiens of limited habitat. what a f#@*en joke some of you guys are!

Eatvenison

your comments are kind of harsh, don't you think? Do you wear nice warm boots and wool socks during the cold part of the season? Why? How about that gortex coat rated to -20 degrees? Or the Wool cap? Warm gloves? Do have a nice portable stand, state-of-art compound bow, release, drop away rest, multi-pin sight, etc, etc?

I picture you running naked with just a loin cloth and a spear,.....am I correct? Or are you a spoiled modern day hunter? To each his own my friend,...we're all hunters.

From: notme

You can't be naked and wear a loin cloth..no sir.its physically impossible..im trying it now..nope.lol

Looks like a stand we nick named the honeymoon stand down in PA.

You can have a square dance up there with all that room

From: bigbuckbob
07-Oct-15
notme - you are correct. Loin cloths should also be sized correctly to account for the early morning "full attention" or the cold water shrinkage. If you're in the honeymoon stand as Big D pointed out the loin cloth allows easy access as well ;)

From: cuntrytocity
07-Oct-15
Eatsvenison.......your comments are pathetic and everyone adapts to the cold according to their own personal beliefs, who are you to question anyone's toughness......probably softer than drug store cotton.

Technology.....you are aware of that, or are you still using a stone hammer from the Ice Age. If anyone is pathetic, with your loathsome and negative comments, I'd say it's you!!!

I don't wear a loin cloth but I definitly venture more than 60-100yard from the house. And never took into acount if an extension cord could make it to my stand. I stand my ground, most of you suck! you wait and shoot, but you don't hunt...and cunt#&%@city, I have no questions about anyones toughness on this site, it's pretty obvious, cunt#&%@city, or whatever you call yourself. Now put your hat on before you catch a cold and hurry home.

Eats venison: are you as repulsive as you sound? Your blanket generalizations are absurd and meritless and, frankly, make you look quite foolish. Please read my earlier post. And I inc pirate by reference the other post to your offensive comments, which I echo very loudly. Didn't you ever learn that poison pen is just bad writing. That aside, baiting is legal in portions of CT. I'm sure you use a gun with a scope, which is legal, right. I guess that makes you a hypocrite and any others that would condone such lawful activities.

I've seen first hand the boxblinds that are used in Maine...what was posted here is a shanty compared to some of those.

Eastvenison, do you bear hunt? You have to, because you're only getting 1 deer and good luck on the moose tag. Deer over corn, eh?

From: steve
07-Oct-15
That's why I don't go to Maine to many nut jobs there they have a show about them too I think its North Woods Law or something like that all I see is guys shooting deer at night is that's better than corn piles ? Steve

I don't hunt from a box blind, some coyote hunters do at night as seen on the show, I don't bear hunt, but you can slam the methods all you want as you beg for a bear season in your state, and I don't gun hunt. And steve, you couldn't find the forest thru the trees if you tried, when is the last time you shot a deer on more than ten acres?..I hope your all distracted from coming to a place like maine, I'm sick of looking for guys like you lost in the woods. And you can't bait here so I'm sure thats a big turn off. Tip on hunting ct, bring lots of corn and grain to make up for your lack of hunting abilities, and buy rage broadheads to make up for your lack of shooting abilities.

still don't want to answer the questions?

I've hunted with guys in Maine in The Forks, Rumford, and Biddeford. Some of them were my type of hunter, did things the right way, legal and ethical. But there were the few that shot across roads, shot in the dark and at "sounders" (heard a noise and shot in the direction of the noise without identifying the target).

What group do you belong to?

From: Irontail

Hell I have hunted Maine. It kinda sucked . I spent a ton of money seen shit the hand full of times I have gone .but will say yes it's not easy as some areas in ct . I guess eat doesn't know you can't bait all of ct . But again not everyone knows what they are speaking of!!! I guess he should stay in his own forum as the Maine boys say to us flat landers .. those boys are just wicked smart ... .. hell I say hunt smarter not harder .

Eatsvenison, I have deployed 3 times and the first tour I was as a turret gunner in the infantry. I have stayed up to ten days at a time outside of the wire. In everything from 140F down to 20F I would have built the stand further into the woods but I only have 5 acers and if I want to be comfortable while doing something I love that’s on me. Go bring that stuff back up to the Maine forum guys like you are why I don’t post on here.

From: Eatsvenison
07-Oct-15
shitstainbob, what the kind of crowd do you hunt with? shooting across roads? shooting at sounds? you need to revaluate your friends and the people you associate with. what group do I belong to?..obviously not the same one as you. No one in my group has ever done such things or even been in the company of it, as you were, did you notify the gamewarden, or play along?

From: Eatsvenison
07-Oct-15
Irontail, most people think the hunting in maine sucks, because you actually have to hunt and read sign here and cover alot ground, miles and miles, many of todays hunters are not capable of that, they wright off good areas because its too hard or they don;t know any better. The more people that think Maine sucks the better it is for me! don't come here, it sucks! 200" 260lbs deer are just a rumor, don't wate your time it def sucks! Irontail is right!

when I said I hunted with guys I should have been a bit clearer. They were not in my group, but were at the local stores and check-in stations. And yes, I report all game violations and have consistently stated that on this site.

BTW - I've hunted Maine 5 times and took deer 3 out of the five, not perfect but not bad for being a non-resident. Maine is tough hunting, thick woods in some areas like the Forks, and a lot fewer deer than CT, but that's what I like.

Still didn't answer my questions? Man up and stop hiding behind your insults. I have to go change my underwear, so I'll look for your answer later.

I said it kinda sucked yes there are bug deer in Maine . I hunted up near the Canadian border seen more moose then deer I hunt around moose head lake my family owns land there . I'm not saying you can't take good deer around Maine . Bottom line is your on the ct forum bashing ct hunter .... do you see ct hunter on the maine forums bashing you or your hunters no . I don't believe you do it just go to show you certain people are just plain a$$ holes. You sound like a frigging anti hunter... you should just go back to Mai es forum's and bit higher that your neighboring hunters have heated hunting shacks and drag deer with 6 wheelers shoo deer on private property's ect . Do your self a favor and just leave it alone . Prolly the problem has no one else to complain too ...

My CT hunting friends, this, unfortunately, is a troll. Probably jealous of the regulations here in CT. Probably posting from his mom's basement just to get a rise. Do not pay him any attention as this is what he wants. Okay, we all understand, you are a tough guy, Maine hunter. We get it. Why be warm in a stand? Now go away. I do not apologize for any deer I have ever killed and do so ethically and within all regulations provided by the state. I have absolutely hunted over bait and hunted small parcels. I have also hunted on thousands of acres of state land in states I have never been and been successful.. I have hunted Montana,Saskatchewan and Maine for up to 10 days at a time in camp on DIY hunts. Please tell me I qualify to be a REAL hunter like you! Still love to hunt my own state!! Please stay on the Maine forum. I don't go on that forum and bash North Woods Law hunters and there have been quite a few losers on that show. I would, however, be happy to trade you some of my full freezer of venison for a few lobster!!! What a joke,

Hey all,

This Eatsvenison guy is lonely and craving huntin' talk. There are only three threads, with a total of eight postings, on the Maine forum.

Then again, about this time every year we get someone baiting us to badmouthing others or squabble between ourselves. Remember last fall, when we had that young dude hunting on his fathers property and telling us that we were so deprived to only have state land.

There's very little you can say to someone so full of themselves.

PS - Travis if you check out the MA forum, one of the guys, MRW I believe has a pretty slick spot a couple hundred yards from the house. He didnt run a heater, but, he ran what amounts to a motion triggered video feed. We had a blast last year on the MA forum with all the cool deer that walked past his house. If he can pull that off, makes sense that you could get a heater out there...
