Gun season kill tread

While a great majority of you were headed to deer camp I was stuck in town hammering out the details of the biggest painting contract in my companies short three year history. This is a great deal for my wallet but unfortunately has made me have to cancel my gun hunt.
All I can do is enjoy from afar and root for my Bowsite buddies to knock down some big ones. I know this is a gun kill thread on a bowhunter site so if you don't like the thread than ignore it.
Everyone else, post your pics and stories right here. Good luck, be safe, and shoot straight!
Tagged out the first 5 minutes on a 140's 10 that i was so close on during bow. Bow buck hunting starts in 24 hours. Looking at 6 bucks now. Some rutting activity.
Holy sh1t November! Congrats! Enjoy the drag and post some pics.
3/9 hunters done. My son passed 2 130's. Saving his tag for ml.
Saw a smaller buck ,I would have loved my 11yr old son to kill, just didn't stop in a good spot.we also saw 3 doe. For the farm I hunt, that's a pretty good day.
Got this one at 7:30 am. 20 inch wide main frame 10 with an extra point. I sat all day and saw 17 bucks and 31 does. This one sat tagged under my stand while I sat on stand and watched the bucks running does. Still rutting.
I am about 1.5 miles, as the crow flies, from November. Three hunters, only one small buck, does and fawns seen on my forty acres. different property, different situation. Not as much shooting as years past. More shooting in the afternoon, which could have been does.
Sitting for over 10 hours I had time to think. There definitely is less deer than in the past. More guys are sitting in large blinds with heaters, food, phones to play on, and even porti-pottys. Guys use to lean against trees, with inferior clothing, get cold, and then starting walking, "moving deer" that would normally be nocturnal. It will also be interesting to see the long-term effects of crossbows on the gun deer kill. I really don't think we will see the high gun kill numbers of the past.
rng, nice buck but it's not 200" like you said you would only shoot from now on.
Wow Run, " your Deer sure have long ears in your area.
ruger1022 the Ogema strain of whitetail are crossed with rabbits. Don't be jealous. Haters gotta hate hate hate hate hate hate.
The kids can make you proud. Cold morning but bucks are still casing does. both of these stinky buggars died because they were in love.
My son got his first ever deer Sat at about 4 pm! First time he sat by himself too!!!
Congrats on the first deer!
Got this monster this afternoon. Great public land hunt again! Also found a broadhead in his front shoulder while caping him out.
B&G, looks similar to my son's 4x"2.5" shot Sunday morning, 6:25 a.m. at bow range. His first shot ever on a deer and dropped it on the spot, not even a twitch (shoulder/lung) with a 7mm-.08 shooting low-recoil hand loads. I passed on two bucks Saturday with him hoping he'd get the shot, including one dandy 8 that just wouldn't give him the broad side, standing look he was waiting for. Not shooting does yet but saw 15 baldies together in one field at dusk Sunday. Most deer seen and most shots heard in more than a decade. First time online since Friday trying to catch up, photo later.
Richland county, Sunday, just before noon, shot by my brother. Saw him twice archery hunting but no shot opportunity.
My 16 year old son got his first buck Sunday. It was also his first year to hunt "alone" he was in a brush blind about 600 yards from me. Shot with a Browning Lever .257 Roberts. Kind of a cool buck as the left antler looks to have broken almost all the way off in velvet then continued growing that way.
Rut, you been hunting behind my house? Congrats to your son and all the others that have been successful.
Rutnut , your Browning blr in .257 Roberts is a scare gun . Worth some good money . Take good care of that puppy .
I may have a few boxes of Hornaday custom loads in .257 Roberts + P .
Naz....too funny...almost identical situation except that my son shot at over 100 yards...awesome shot. There are guys in camp that I know that couldn't do that. LOL.
Also shoots a 7mm-.08!!!! Congrats as well!
I have to say...when I heard him shoot I was pumped and just hoping he got one. I think I was more excited than he was!
I hope to go back up north this weekend if things play out at home ;-)
Ruger I'm glad you chimed in on that, I was going to PM you about how common these guns are. My father in law actually owns the gun or says it's for the kids. He had a pawn shop and gun shop and is also a collector so he has a lot of nice and rare guns. He doesn't hunt anymore, so the kids and I pretty much get our pick;)
Shot at 700a.m opening day by my brother. Came by chasing a doe. 5-6 yrs old 170+".
Nice bucks guys! I'm sure we will have quite a few pics on this thread by the weekend. I heard they've been rutting and moving pretty good mid state.
170# or "....may need a new tape if it's inches. Just sayin
Agreed, 170#?? Either way nice buck, congrats.
The pic doesn't do this buck justice all. It looks like maybe a 150 incher but it has 7 inch brows, 26" beams, 13" g2s, 12 scorable pts and unreal mass. We haven't even taped it yet but I guarantee its at least 170 and I have had multiple bucks officially scored.
Picture definitely doesn't do it justice for 26" beams and 13" g2's
The rack is facing down and forward. I hAve a 161 on the wall and I'd say this one is 10 inches bigger. Doesn't matter, it's a big buck either way.
Congrats, especially the young hunters.
170 main frame 8 that picture is really really really horrible... 13" g2's those must be 30" beams then. It's your post tho congrats to the hunter
John- my buddy is an official scorer in the Lacrosse area so I will let you know what he scores since your worried about it. It's not my deer so I could care less but I guarantee if you saw this buck you would think it was a buck of a lifetime. The buck also has a 6" flyer coming off of right g2.
That'd be fine, not worried at all I'm just calling b$ on the measurements, nice buck yes, but when someone puts a score that's just ridiculous based on the picture...expect to get called out. If you post my brother shot a 12pt buck of a lifetime... GREAT! Maybe it's 180, I just can't see it based on that picture, seems like a 150 like you stated earlier.
We took another one this morning. Not 170 inches but still an ok buck.
John- you will not get your hands around the bases of that buck and it carries it's mass out to the end of the beams. I agree most guys throw out numbers and have no clue but from the pic to seeING this buck in person it grew 20 inches from what I initially thought. You must be having a tough season so good luck. I'm gearing up for late season bow hunting.
Instead of arguing why don't you just take a few more pics of it that "do it justice"? Nice looking deer.
Heres my 178 i shot opening day. Ill see in 60 days but i went low with 178. Lots of history. Had him within 100 4 times with my bow. Came out 150 with gun game over. Bittersweet 3 years of history first gun buck.( Very rarely gun hunt.)
Having a fine season, but thanks for the support and well wishes. I have pretty big hands so unless those are 7.5" bases, which they probably are, my hands would fit. I actually have a 170 on the ground, and that's a 170 above for sure congrats wipy!
John- let's see the pic of your 170.
RJN, yes please provide a different pic , I can get 170 out of that one either, easy to compare antlers to the nose and ears, not 170
wi P&Y Congrats! Nice deer!
Hearing/reading some great stories that will provide long lasting memories. Horn porn is just icing on the venison cake
3 more small bucks and a doe were added to our meat pole before turkey dinner. There are only 2 more buck tags left in camp. The woods near Ogema are brimming with deer.
Well a few less after this week.
Giving thanks for a bountiful harvest.
Good hunt in northern Marinette County. Saw a few deer and my daughter shot her first buck ever after hunting hard for many years. Nice 8 pointer with 17 1/4 inch spread, following a doe 7:15 Sunday morning. We were both overcome with excitement and emotion. It made my season a success already.
My buddy got this guy opening morning. He was breeding a doe. Mike missed the first shot and the buck was so consumed with his activity he didn't even flinch. His second shot hit the mark while the buck was mounting the doe.
^^^That's how I want to go out. Lol Nice deer guys. Hope to get on the board in the second weekend.
Im going to have to start charging these guys for my guiding service and mileage for all the truck rides Im giving them. LOL. One buck tag left and we are all tagged out.
12 points and lots of mass. Not real wide but an old deer.
Thankful.
RG, that is a cool looking buck! Congrats on your camps very successful season and good luck filling that last tag.
Thanks crusader dad. Our last hold out is done passing on bucks and made his pick this morning before sunrise. He passed 5 bucks this season, some were bigger than this one but this was his last hunt so he dropped the hammer on this young one. Another year finished with everybody tagged out. Thankful yet again.
I get all the buck hocks again. (And I got plenty this year)
Now the hard work begins. Next up is sausage making. It was another great year in the WI deer woods from bow season all the way through gun season. Time to start ice fishing.
my buddy and I had a good opening day! He shot the pig and we each shot a doe.
Another look at the big 9 pointer in the boat
I really like the boat pic WIbuckwatch. Reminds me of some of the hard to access public land spots I use to hunt.
Last year was our worst gun season since the late 70's! This year was an improvement, but still one of our worst in over 40 years of record keeping hunting seasons. 3 antlered bucks, and a doe.
Sightings very low, once again, and zero mature bucks harvested by our cew for the first time in nearly a decade.
I passed a fork, and then on Thanksgiving even, afte sitting the entire day, I had a buck sneak in with ten minutes of light remaining. He was 190 yards south of me in the creek bottom, and was already looking at me, when I noticed him. By the time I raised my run, he was already disappearing into the 5 foot weeds. I Lined up on his shoulder and quickly released a shot as he dropped down in to the creek bottom.
After a thorough check, and assisted by fresh snow. it was obvious I had missed the nice mature 8 point buck.
My only sighting and chance at a buck older than a yearing the entire season. I hang my head in shame.
Wow dampland. All those trail cam pics had me rooting for you.
190 out and he was looking at you. Do you think he saw you move or does he know that stand is there? I feel for you bro. The good news is you still have muzzy season and late bow. Noc was rooting for you,.,.,, I still am!!!
We are hunting public land, and most years we see a few, but this year was the best yet.
Opening Sunday. Public land. No bait. Single digit temperatures. He shot this buck at 11:12 a.m. It was the third buck we had seen in the previous hour. Coupled with a big mature doe he shot at 7:30 that morning. We were 1.3 miles from the road, it was a long day of dragging for me.
