Hunters opposed to hunting on Sunday

I'm putting this in the WV forum, because I hunt their a couple weeks out of the year and it is the only state I hunt in that still has this law. Just out of curiosity, are there any hunters that are opposed to hunting on Sunday, and if there is, why? I'm not saying it is a good or bad thing, just curios. Of course I would like to see hunting on Sunday's, but since I'm only a "outsider" just curios what the residence actually thought. I'm really curios what gobbler has to say since he has a govt position, he would hear the debate from both sides, and not be "guessing" what the reasons would be either way
Once a county has Sunday hunting, it's old news and nobody cares. People who voted no start hunting on Sunday. No accidents. No churches shutting down.mtrust me, that is exactly how it goes.
Short and to the point. Farm Bureau Politics has kept us from having Sunday hunting statewide.
I only know a few hunters that are against it. They're reason is that the game needs a day of rest. Which in my opinion, is ridiculous . Game is wary 24/7/365. They can't take the day off and sit back, pop open a beer and watch football .
The hunters that I know that uses that excuse I have got them to admit that it was them that wanted a day of rest and they didn't want other people out there hunting and killing something that they might have a chance at later.
Well it didn't seem to stop the man next to a piece of property I own here in mercer county which is NOT open to Sunday's yet he decided to open rifle season a day early today around noon and kill the 8 point that my friend has been chasing since season has come in
At what point can we stop this from being county by county and make it legal state wide? Some guys work 6 days a wk myself included (when I'm not laid off)
I'm sorry to keep singling you out gobbler, But you always seem to give good factual info, I think this might be a silly question but Farm Burea is a Ins company, right? I would think they would want as many animals taken as possible, Forgive me for my lack of knowledge, but that's why I ask Thanks
That's what I don't understand, what is Farm Bureau, is it a govt agency, or lobbying organization, and if they are a lobbying group, For who? Sorry, just trying to understand
mathewsman - to answer your question, the answer is begin making calls or writing to your senator/delegate and ask them to support Sunday hunting legislation this year. It is within the hands of the legislature to correct this county by county rule and make it state-wide.
I would go one step further and ask for the law to include public lands as well as private land. Hunters paid for the public land so it should be open as well and helps keep the regulations simple.
The Farm Bureau is a group that supposedly represents farmers and sells farm insurance . The reality is that it's a group of people that use the numbers of people that buy insurance to lobby for what they want . I suspect the average member has no idea of what they are lobbying for. Much like I have State Farm insurance but have no idea of what they really lobby for .
Check out the WV Farm Bureau website and look at the list of things they want. You will be amazed or flabbergasted at some of them. For example, they want to go back to the old Blue Laws. I can imagine that Walmart wants to have to close all it's stores on Sunday. Plus the negative economic impact would be astronomical .
I respect religious people but like anybody sometimes it goes too far. Some of them don't want anything open on Sunday but then go to Bob Evans or the Cracker Barrel to eat after church where surprisingly people are working to provide them a meal, but somehow that is ok????
Also state wide gun seasons and crossbow why should those counties be separate.
Thanks gobbler, I appreciate the info, clear as usual
Those counties should be separate because there aren't enough deer to warrant gun seasons. The habitat just doesn't support high deer densities. The main premise for hunting seasons is population control and we're accomplishig that without guns. There probably could be more counties designated as archery only. Many people enjoy hunting with bows and these counties are great for that.
If everyone gets ten people to call their representatives, we will have Sunday hunting next year.
