Polk County Barrens/McKenzie Creek WLR

Anybody out there hunting the public land in Polk County Sterling Township or over at the McKenzie Creek Wildlife Refuge on the east side of the county?
I hunted the opener weekend in the Sterling Township Barrens where my family has a nice cabin. Not a lot of shooting. We have 18 hunters in our camp and three of them got deer (three bucks). Half of the other hunters never even saw any deer over the weekend.
Was thinking of heading over to McKenzie Creek WLR for the last weekend of gun opener, but from a few people I have talked to it seems similar there as it was for my group over in Sterling Township.
