This guy finally showed up, I'm sure he's gone for good since I missed out on being in the stand that day, but how old would you guys say he is?

How 'bout this one?

3.5 with good potential. Give him one more year unless you think someone else will get him. Depends where you are. Private land...Let him go. State land take him now. You probably won't get another chance. Your call man. Good luck!

I'm hoping I get the chance. Only maybe 3 more times that I can get out this year.

Actually.... if the success statistics can be trusted, a deer that age that’s still out there on state land is probably pretty safe for another year at this point… Not that you’re likely to see him again even if he does make it!

minimum 3.5 possibly 4.5 - he has good mass for 3.5 - race horse lean body -

QDM put out a nice guide to aging deer by rack and body shape but I can't find the copy I had or any similar guide on the net

How many of you have pulled a tooth and truly gotten your deer aged?

I think we would all be a little shocked to see how most deer cannot be aged correctly by looking at them. Pat even had a guessing game on here and most of the responses were wrong, if my memory serves me.

Someone else did a guessing game on the CT forum last year for not only age but field dressed weight on a buck they killed....and guess what?? Most people got both wrong.

Because the nutrition is so deficient in CT compared to fertile farmland in the Midwest, our deer don't resemble the typical antler or body size we would think.

Notme, That's a mature buck. 4.5 or better. Thick body and a little sag to the belly. Take him if you get a chance.
