Always had good luck hunting after the first snowfall. Deer kind of freak out and realize food sources have to be worked for. Thoughts and experiences welcome. Maybe it's just my perception.

I agree and I have some nice bucks still roaming past my cameras but all are after dark. I think a good polar blast would get them moving.

Snow is dead. Mockingjay (aka El Niño per stickn' em hod) killed him more or less.

Good luck with that. I agree but just heard that El Niño is the reason for our warm weather. Bob Maxon said this warm weather is typical of an El Niño winter. Instead of cold air masses after front move through we get warm one. Time to gang up on El Niño and take him out. Good for home heating and bad for us hunters.

Mike
Cover up one major food source and I agree, the deer need to forage more to find it, which mean more activity.

Dont think Snow is dead, think he will be back as the new king of the white walkers. Or quite possibly the red which saved him and he will be the new king of the north!!! Those of you in the know, understand the references. Sorry to turn the thread but arent we all playing games of somekind?!?!?!?

Can't wait for the new season to start "Birdman". I wouldn't mind a little snow.

Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I prefer tracks in the snow, to trailcams. Also, I can leave my cart home and bring the sled instead.

Snow can be fun, but Ill admit I'm a weirdo when it comes to hunting. I cant stand a light (less than 10") storm. At least up here (MA) every gang drive group goes looking for tracks crossing roads and pushes those woods. If you get a massive dump - like 15-20+ inches, it tends to make guys quit. So I like those big ones, but not the light snows.
That said, I do think it's fun to hunt in and try to track deer. I just dont like what happens up here when we get it (snow).

I'm with you WB. I use a small kids tobbogin and bungee cords for dragging. I put a finger of a latex glove over the muzzle of the smokepole, sling it over my back and get up on the snowshoes if it gets deep using a small set of ski poles to help push me along slowly. I love hunting during or after a fresh snowfall. Doesn't look like anytime soon this year tho.

If I see snow before mid january I may throw myself out of my treestand with my safety harness around my neck. NO SNOW
