Yesterday (2nd) a few trad shooting buddies came over for a last minute gathering. It doesn't take much coaxing to get these guys to break out the recurves and longbows.
I had a roaring fire going by the time the trucks started coming up my hill. The fire pit felt good in the cold breeze that seems to be a constant at my place. Soon we were shooting the bull and our bows. :) Coffee and deer bologna made a quick snack before we headed to the woodlot for a deer drive.
Posters were set at likely escape routes and our tagged out "dog" Tim was set out to do his thing. Man, the wind was cold during the wait. The woodlot was void of deer, which was typical this season. But at least we can say we were hunting.
Now back to the fire to thaw out and cook some dogs. I've heard that traditional bowhunters are especially fond of hot dogs. Don't know why, maybe because we don't eat much deer meat. Regardless, we were soon sharing tales and warming up.
After the much needed intake of food and coffee it was back to the woodlot to shoot my feed sack course. Lots of shots, laughs, and way too much searching in the leaves. Someday, when they dig this place up, they will surely believe there was an Indian battle with all the arrows found.
The day ended with another thawing out by the fire and bologna passed around until it was all consumed. All tales were told and time for the handfull of archers to depart.
This day was just what the Dr ordered!
Nice story Red. Werent Mr. Perfect there?
(happy now Dale. :^))
Sounds like a great time Dave. Wood smoke and deer bologna sure do go together.
Sounds like fun Red.
Dave: You lived my dream this weekend!! That sounds like a fantabulistic way to start 2016....
A yardsale find in September was a couple of those metal hotdog cooker sticks, those pointy things looking like tridents. Now I know where to bring them...!
A good story. A better day. Thanks for letting us be "afterward envious"!!!
Hajas: you need to go down to the Latrobe flats behind the firehall and by the ballfield, and have an Archery event with your own hotdog fire. I'd be there....
Hayl When I stopped out to borrow Reds Rarely Hit Turkey target a while back they was there standin around BSn and eatin Hot dogs.
