Turkey Hunting with Bow
Wisconsin

Surprised the DNR. Has not started a bow season only for turkeys , would be added revenue. They could have the youth the disabled. The first timers. The crossbow. Seasons bow only and tons of new revenue
I always thought there should be a 2 week season starting 4/1 that is bow only. Might be in snow and cold weather but would be fun.
Have arrowhead two with a bow. Very tough. No blind was used. Just set up on a ridge. And called them in as the old toms came over ridge. Arrived them. Quite a show. As they jump around. Afterwards. Took a few times to get the first one..

The DNR still operates on a fixed budget set by the joint finance committee. Revenue only matters to the legislators you vote into office. The legislators change the laws, the WDNR is ordered to implement the laws, and the Wardens attempt to enforce them. ;-)
this will be my 4th year, trying to kill one with my recurve,,,,, other bows and guns, no problem
I was 5 and 0 with a gun. Now 0 and 4 with the recurve. Not as easy, but fun.
I'm 0 for 1 with bow. I'll never use a shotgun for turkey. I wouldn't mind an early bow season for turkey but I don't mind it the way it is now either. We did not apply this fall because we couldn't figure out exactly where in the state we wanted to try this year. We still don't know but I'll figure it out and go grab some leftover tags for the boys and I.
got one ..... then the next year missed one Going bow again this year with grandson. Wisconsin does not need a separate bow season for turkey.
KS does it.
One with a recurve and 4 with a longbow.
Bowmania
They won't do archery only anything unless they see that there is a large profit in it. Plus the gun only hunters would whine that it's not fair.
Over 85% approval rating on the way the DNR runs the turkey seasons in Wisconsin. It GREAT the way it is!!!
Kansas has a bow only week before the general season opens. I go out there almost every year. It is a great idea for Kansas and works well.
But... their general season is long and permits are over the counter. So not many folks chase them with bows. There is no real incentive.
Wisconsin is different. The general season is very restrictive and permits are hard to get (I was drawn for week 4 this year...).
If Wisconsin opened a bow season with easy permits, it would be a disaster. Every schmuck with a bow would go out and start sticking arrows in gobblers. Most gobblers would be lost. It would be a waste of a great resource.
As buckmaster noted, the Wisconsin turkey season structure is very good exactly as it is...

Kind of the way archery season is going now that any fool can hunt with a crossbow.
Right on RutNut!!!!!!!!!!
