No change in buck limit and more doe tags. Proposed by WV DNR Commission. wvmetronews.com Dont we have a voice on this commission?Things never seem to change its all about the money!!
Kill em all. The only good deer is a dead deer. Cha Ching. Lol
Looks like I'll be going back to Ohio this year. At least I might see a buck older than 1 1/2 What a joke!
Upset public? Imagine that. Come on guys, show up at the commission meeting and voice your displeasure.
I have been to some March meetings over the years. May as well go talk to the wall for what its worth. They (DNR)have been getting pressure to change buck limits for last few years, and still refuse. They ( DNR) can say what want. I still maintain and have for years its all about money.
Well yea. Someone already had a thread the buck season limits were a money maker and it didnt make sense to change them. If I remember correctly in Was Gary Foster.
I don't think money is the issue for the doe or buck tags. If they roll back bag limits then the prices will just go up.
no. Gary Foster already said in an interview it was about money.
I downloaded the 1/2/2016 program last night after going to bed at 3 AM after watching the Eer's play. Chris Lawrence had (I believe his name is) Gary Foster from the dnr on - some of you may want to google the program and downloaded it and hear what he has to say. He said there is still a minimal number of hunters who harvest more than one buck per year. Said the number has been steadily declining since the 90's. Also said data shows that decreasing the limit from 3 to 2 bucks would not make much of a difference. And once again stated that 1.5 year olds only make up about 35% of the total buck kill ( It was 30 something %)
He was pretty clear that reducing the limit would just hurt the revenue brought in and that the data shows no need of it and that there are not the numbers of hunters killing 3 spikes like some on here are saying.
I don't know if he had recent numbers with the new system or not but I would hope he did.
Gobbler when should we start hearing more on the numbers from the new system? I would love to know the number of hunters they are saying are in WV now. Is it 240,000 like some are saying or the 350,000 - 400,000 that some suggest?
This was what Mr Foster said.
For clarity this above post was posted by JayD a while back on another thread. Sure sounds like it is about money to me.
JR are you internet stalking me??? ROFL jk - it is confusing isn't it? About week ago I emailed the DNR and ask about deer hunter numbers and was told 330k not counting landowners - listening to some of you I am sure numbers may be dwindling - I have not seen it around me but who really believes the number has dropped to 240k?
There have been so many contradictory stats mentioned that it is hard to tell what is accurate.
After some of the mind boggling and grossly inaccurate info presented by a hot headed commissioner wearing a homemade superhero cape this past weekend in a public meeting that he couldn't adjourn quickly enough after going old schoolmarm on some respectful speakers who just happen to see things differently, many will continue to weigh their trust of info with great caution. (Yep, that was 1 sentence.)
There are MANY good people at the DNR who I am certain will help firm up the data moving forward. Until then it feeds confusion and mistrust. I have hope.
What if the bow counties had a 3 buck limit...bet that would go over big....
Of course neither of us want that but it certainly is a more than fair question when 2 commissioners (one who lives in the bow counties and the other who hunts thousands of acres managed under QDM practices) are fighting the hardest against the rest of WV having a lower limit. I see far more deer and far more bucks in southern WV than I do around Richwood. However, we have a 3 buck limit and all weapons are allowed here. It does make one scratch their head and wonder what is going on.
I guess we will disagree a tad because I don't think changing the limit would have a huge impact as long as they remain bow only. I would be a happy camper if we made the whole state bow only! LOL
Most of the state Wildlife Management Areas have a buck one limit. Why?
Because the population is nowhere near what it is on private lands
What wma do you hunt to say that. Just as many bucks in Mcclintic wma and a lot bigger than most private land that allows hunting.Come down to mason co some August evening when bucks and doe are in fields and tell me that.Point is they manage these areas for bigger bucks that is why you can only kill 1 buck period. bow or gun one buck.
