Received news at the Indiana Bowhunter Banquet last night that Dr. Jim Mitchell, retired Indiana Deer Biologist, was killed in an auto accident on Friday.

Years ago, when I accepted the position as IBA Rep to the Indiana Deer Advisory Committee, I remember Gene Hopkins saying:

"You may not always like to hear what Jim is saying about deer management, but you can count on it being the truth."

Those words proved to be absolute and I gained alot of respect for Jim during my years with the IDAC....and after.

Rest in peace Jim.

Just heard the news yesterday about our friend Jim. Spent a lot of time in his office, just talking "deer stories" always joking and laughing about something. He was instrumental in opening up the State Parks for hunting, way back when. What a sad loss for the hunting community.
