I have heard from a dozen fisherman that they have caught nothing in the season opener this past weekend.

How about some of you?

With the current state budget cut backs I would be surprised if most people caught anything. They probably had the fish in the hatcheries, but no one left to put them in the waterways.

Talked to my bud at Stratford bait.he says state cut back on the numbers and pretty much only stocked big named rivers

Does this mean they will stop the funding for the Atlantic salmon project ?..I'd think after 30 yrs and only 6fish came back they would get the hint.

Had a great opening day. My buddy got 5. My other buddy got 5. Saw at least 15-20 other trout caught all around us. It was really good this year.

Talked to a few of my son's friends and they had a banner opening day....and the day after too.

The only bad part was all the guys I saw fishing the river we were on. It was so nice back in the day when you could look up and down the river and see no one. Guess that's part of the put-and-take game we play.

The best part of the morning was the tom turkey sounding off on the hillside right behind us as we started to fish.

Perhaps they could use the TIP line Pat. Put that on the kids speed dial in their phones

Deep: What's your location

Me:Penfield reef,Fairfield,by the marina.

Deep: Can you be more specific.can you give us a license plate number

Me:I'm on the beach and its where you keep your boat.

Deep: Can you be more specific.somebody will be right there....of course they never show...wheres Tommy z when you need him..lol

Opening day on Mt Tom Pond had people catching trout from the shore using power bait on the bottom. Those of us trolling didn't do near as well but I did catch a 23 1/2 inch salmon and saw one other salmon caught. Maybe the salmon restoration program is not working but it is great fishing for those brood stock salmon that the state puts out. I did try in the Pomperaug in South Britain this afternoon and did not have one hit. I was told by a few guys that only a portion of the Pomperaug was stocked on opening day in some scout area.

Dad and I limited out on the mt hope again. Caught two brokies with my kids at Hammo river Monday. DEEP guy was doing a survey on opening day. How many fisherman, kids, women etc. He said every year DEEP gets calls on Monday following opening day from people who are pissed they didn't catch any.

Here you go.

Most are fishing small streams for wild trout - and as one would expect, are excellent at sharing zero data on "where" those streams are. Smart fishermen :)

But at various points I've seen a few discuss well known watersheds like the Farmy, Salmon and Housatonic for example.
