well, I went out to the car this morning around quarter to six and hit the door lock and the car made it's usually "too loud" chirp as it unlocked and I was rewarded by a tom gobbling on his perch just 50 or so yards away! So I hit the button again and he sounded off again! Sooo... I hit it again and he went off! So much fun! I kept hittin the button! But I don't think my neighbor appreciated it as much as I did, LOL!
So who's all set and ready to sit out in the rain :)
Spider1,
I am. Can I borrow your car? :^)
depends, how far into the woods do ya need to take it, lol!!!
Would just taking the door work?? Good luck!
2nd thought market it, you know somebody will buy it;)
That's nuffin spider-boy. I stepped out on the patio this morning about 6:30 and gave out a couple hen yelps on the box call. Gobbler answered about 300 yards down the hollow. 15 minutes later and a bunch more hen yelps and I had coaxed him into walking up through the yard, up the driveway and I left him cross the road. Once he hit the yard I went silent. 10 inch beard and about an 18 pound bird.
You keep luring him up there in hopes of finding a girlfriend and he doesn't, he's gonna wind up pooping in yer hottub. :^)
nope, the door wouldn't work... the speaker is under the hood... you would have to take the hood and the door! LOL!
RC, we have a resident gang of hens that hang out around here that cut through my yard every day to get to the field. I guess the tom is settin' his claim.
I got mine already staked out. :^)
You can see the stake right under his fan.
I'm set, just checked the weather. Looks like no rain for me tomorrow morning, but cold 37 at day break.. Looks like I'll be wearing long johns and a neck gator tomorrow morning.. Gloves also.

Ya all better prepare for the tick invasion...
Took 2:30 for a gobbler in the field to shut up and quit strutting. Guess he wants everybody after him. Someone was working him at 5:00am this morning. And he made sure he stayed visible from the 4 lane and both secondary roads. Kind of strange for that much gobbling around here this time of year.
Real men ain't scared of no bugs.
Good luck tomorrow fellas, post 'em if you get him!
They stayed out of range. Not much gobbling or shooting.
Had 2 guys go to top of a nearby hill to listen to the 3 or 4 gobblers goin bonkers at my seductive renderings..... They then walked right into those said gobblers at daylight less than a hundred yards away:(
Had a hen doing all the calling for me. When the gobbler came in she stayed between him and me during my only shot opportunity. Was still very enjoyable!
yep, Dale, it's happened to me a few times. One time I was working a pair of toms that were on the opposite side of a nearby road. I was on the ridge above them and having a hard time getting them to come across the road but knew they would come up to me if they just crossed that road. Then a car pulled up right in front of them, a couple guys got out and called a few times on a box call. didn't get an answer so they got in the car and drove off a hundred yards and tried again. Surprise surprise... I didn't hear the 2 toms again that day.
--------
I had that tom sounding off at my car again this morning! One of these days I hope to see him strutting around my back yard.
Shot a bird first thing in the morning, called in three and shot the biggest. I I have four weeks to kill one with my long bow.
Spider 1, if he's like the one behind my house he'll visit on Sunday.
LOL! You need to market that locator call, SPider! ;-)
Congrats Will Tell!

"Spider 1, if he's like the one behind my house he'll visit on Sunday. "
yeah, and then only 60 yards away sneaking behind me. Oh heck, I ain't hunting so he'll prolly strut right up to me.

Rut, it ain't fer sale! It's better than my hoot owl or woodpecker calls!
So spider-boy, ya got a hooter & pecker call? Priceless.....
I've tried both a hoot owl call and the woodpecker call...no luck with either.
The first couple of times out, I only used them once or twice with absolutely no luck at all.
The next time out, I decided to make a real effort at using them, so I alternated between those two calls all morning, but still didn't have any luck.
I'm guessing that no owls or woodpeckers showed up because of all the darned racket those gobblers kept making every time I blew on one of the calls.
lol! yeah, I got a hooter and pecker call.
The best time to use them is in the evening to locate birds when they roost. The next morning I go in as quiet as I can before sun up and try to get just below them. It's even worked a time or 2!
Got one with the gun this morning. Called 3 longbeards away from a hen after 40 minutes.

Are we still talking turkey hunting, or.............. ;-)

Don't look up, I heard they poop out of the tree:)

Tomorrow is the 1st Annual Wapiti Archers of Ft Washington's Spring Gobbler Tr radiations Bowhunt. We have four trad Archers from Wapiti, two Trad Archers from Clover Leaf, and maybe, just maybe, Gene King with his longbow purchased at the UBP Winter Banquet.
and maybe, just maybe, Gene King with his longbow purchased at the UBP Winter Banquet.
Are we speaking of the same Gene King I know???
yep. It's this one in the middle of us.
We all 3 got nice gobblers...
Tell the truth RC; you and Gene got your gobblers with great shots. Me, not so much. I had to tackle mine and wring it's neck after a bad hit.
It still counts, Bobby. I only wish we had a video of your open field tackle...
I thought you guys were going to pee in your pants from laughing so hard.
Holy smokes! Congrats guys! You got pics?
Called in 8 gobblers so far, called in 5 jakes Saturday and the boy shot one. Only gone out twice and haven't hunted past 6:30. Still have a tag left and got my longbow ready for the 3rd and 4 th weeks. Seems I have better luck with the long beards later in the season. Last year only called in two Jakes, never know about Turkey hunting.lol
I don't know Spider.................3 gobblers?! I'm not sure I believe 'ol RC..................even with pics!!!!!!! ;-)
I can believe him... I just don't believe none of 'em got any video of Bob chasing a turkey through the field, LMAO!!!!
LMBO!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, that would be priceless!!!!!! :)
The Trilene grew taut.... The Pole tip bounces as if to say.....

LOL! My thoughts exactly Dale! :)
Would Bobby lie to you guys?
The only camera we had was mine and the darn batteries went dead.
Sure was quiet out there yesterday. Rained this morning.
Yesterday I could hear the gobblers wings dragging behind me. Problem was the hen was 30' in front of me;(
Today seen a lonely hen calling for a boy friend to no avail.
yeah, by now every bird has been properly educated! They're gonna shut up as soon as they hit the ground. Gotta watch for the sneaky ones that always seem to come in from behind, lol!
Already got my turkey mount back.. Looks good.
Yeah, and that's the way you shot him, right roy?! (in mid-flight! ;-)
Absolutely... At 50 yards, flying broadside through a crab apple thicket.
With a flu flu I might add.
Zoey got one yesterday. She just wont stand still for the picture. Does the dog license cover it?
Thanks guys. Saw this bird 3 times since the first week but it was either too late or I was unarmed. Figured it was just a matter of time. Got him the same place as 3 years ago. He was strutting for 2 hens and called them in close. When the hens started to leave I shot him from behind at 30 yards. Just picture the view of one of those McKenzie strutting turkey targets. Hit a little high of the 10 ring and broke his back.
Zoey cannot shoot a bow or take a picture with the tablet.
Congratulations Art! Are you going to have the bird mounted like Roy did?
Well the bird I hunted quite a bit this season is still gobbling today. Good news, I guess:( Would like to now how many shots was fired his direction, he was a talker all season.
I wouldn't mount a turkey I shot with a compound either.
Way to go Art! That looks like a nice mature one! :)
