The Hunters Governor ?
West Virginia

I'm not wanting to start a political argument here so it's debate free ,but I do not know much about how the candidates for Governor will support our hunters. I know hunting is not a top priority for the state in this depressed economy but I don't want a governor who does not care for the hunter either.
I know Jim Justice owns a game farm and a lot of the land he buys up he does not allow hunting on except for select people. Other than that I do not know what he believes.
I know nothing about Bill Cole and his hunting ideas.
Any knowledge about them would be good. Please, don't argue who is best. Just facts about hunting is what this topic is about.
With regards to Senator Cole, I can't answer your question in detail. All I know is, he professes to be a staunch supporter of hunting and hunters rights and the 2nd Amendment. He has a petition on his website concerning the 2nd Amendment.
I did send an email to him asking his views. "If" I get a reply, I'll post it here.
My understanding of Cole is the same as Jim's.
My understanding is that Jim Justice is a hunter. I have cruised some of his timber and, cut timber that borders grounds he owns as well. According to his land people, he refuses to sell the timber on one of those parcels for the reason being, it is where he personally hunts. It makes sense as he moves a lot of timber on his properties. That particular parcel is a thousand ares plus and, contains some very valuable timber.
God Bless
If it's his tract behind stoneybrook I was there with him about 10-15 years ago and there was some huge valuable timber on it then. For a few years he offered guided deer and gobbler hunts there and I guided one of his guests to a good gobbler in there. A couple of years later he shut the deer and turkey hunting down to keep it to himself. I don't blame him a bit. I would probably do the same.
I don't either. I'd let friends in no sweat. However, it wouldn't be my thing to charge people I didn't know for hunting. I just wouldn't let them in. But, in his situation, he has a lot of friends. So, if you didn't put up some for yourself, you'd be hunting around all of them before it was over with. The only thing I'll say for certainty that I would do different is I'd harvest some timber to increase habitat quality.
This particular tract is in Raleigh County. God Bless
As a hunter, I would hope Justice would make some positive appointments of sportsmen that are willing to represent sportsmen.
Justice has vast land holdings in Randolph County as well.
I believe Cole is a friend of Sunday hunting but does not see it as a serious issue. HIW car dealerships are open on Sunday.
I thought guiding hunters was illegal in WV. But not real sure. I guess maybe no money changed hands. I wouldn't mind guiding some elk hunts when they get here.
Yeah, where I was at needed at least a Selective cut. You could see for over a hundred yards and almost no understory. He may have had it cut since then. IDK
If they don't pass a budget, it won't much matter what their position on hunting is.
I think they passed one but they basically just transferred money from place to place like the federal Gubment does.
