Hey guys, have a normal spot that we archery hunt every couple of years in Wyoming. But I'm looking for something a little closer that we could do a 5 day late season cow elk hunt on. I'm about 5 hours from Laramie and 7 from Casper to give reference.

Was curious if anyone had thoughts on a good unit in eastern or south eastern Wyoming for a rifle cow hunt. My buddy that wants to go is busy through October so I'm looking at november-january. Units 8,10,11,116 and 122 all have good easy to get type 6 tags but not sure on how huntable they are. Just looking for a good meat hunt for 17'.

Or do you just fight the crowd and hunt unit 7 late?

Thanks

Unit 11 would be hard to hunt that late. Lots of snow there makes getting in impossible sometimes. Some of those areas will not have leftover tags.

11 and whatever the unit west of there do have plenty of late cows. The Wick WMA is where most are killed. Unit 7 is a thought, too, and the G&F is doing a lot there to get the herd down. They do really try to get hunters onto elk for that unit, I'm told.
