What is everybody doing this weekend? Will you all be including a little bow shooting in your activities? We may be spending a little time at the river.
I'm going back for another load of osage tomorrow. I have to try to split this one where it lays because it's too big to move as-is.
This was the first load...
Swim meet tomorrow morning. Then relaxing the rest of the weekend. Will get the bows out for some shooting in the yard and hope to hit the lake for some fishing early Monday morning.
Interseting , Jeff. Maybe it's just the angle, but are those long enough? Do you paint the end so they don't split? I still have turkey wings in my freezer.
Art those are going to Roys place to be made into slats.:)
Ya Jeff, are they? Maybe one? Art, the short ones get Z spliced together to make a stave.
That's why I asked. I saw Roy the Painter do the ends once.
I plan on spending some quality time with my favorite longbow. There are stumps and critters to hunt.
Also going to make my hog camp pulled pork for the family on Sunday. One Boston Butt from the store, and one shoulder from my hog (killed with the aforementioned longbow). The recipe is pretty simple: Famous Dave's dry rub, sear in a hot pan, then 7-8 hrs in the roaster at 275 with a whole bottle of V-8 juice. It is "Slap yo Mama good!".
Then, after eating way too much, we sit out in my daughters yard and watch the fireworks with the whole family.
Sounds like a good weekend!
Have a good one!
Yeah Art, only one is long enough for staves without splicing them together at the handle. I don't look to cut them shorter, but there are benefits to spliced billets.
The ends are sealed with shellac.
Today I went back down and got another full length log.
Dale, I was down in your neck of the woods getting that osage... southeast of Greensburg.
You were 5 miles from my house and didn't stop? Mad at you...
5 miles? Umm, no. 6, at least :^)
Honestly, I was so lost, there was no way I could have found your place anyhow.
On the hill this evening.
Wife and I are headed to Parris Island, SC to see son graduate from USMC Boot Camp. Daughter is stationed in TX and is flying over to surprise him at graduation. Then we all come home. Probably the last time we will all be together for a long time. Both kids expressed they what to maybe do some bow fishing and shoot 3D course.
I took 14 pictures of the sunset. I am keeping the rest to myself and Kathy.
Art, that's prit near the exact cloud sunset I saw from Alverton this eve. Twas fantastic.
My weekend? Deciding whether to blow off the 5K walk I'm supposed to do on Monday morning, and instead crashing Red's QTH on Sunday, for some of that pork, and stay into Monday or Tuesday cause I was wonked out on triptophanes.
I'll probably just do the walk, work on arrows, and chill. 'Z'all good...!!! Be safe, have fun, Yinz'all
Had a great weekend in Washington County.
Got my new Bear Grizzly all strung up. She's shoots pretty good!
Well the wild hog sandwiches were great. Fireworks with the family were awesome. And there's a new groundhog taking harp lessons in piggie heaven!
David what is your total on dead hogs? You were over 300 right?
I went to Rocky Gap Casino, took the MIL and MJ. I played about 4 hrs, ate a nice dinner and came home with a good bit more than I took :)
Shopped at a new health food store.
I have done nothing but lay around for over a week now. Waiting to get a MRI on my back. Doc thinks I may have a ruptured disk:(
Dale,
I'm at 252 with recurves and longbows. There was one with a wheeled contraption in the beginning but I don't count it.
It's very slim pickings in recent years since the coyotes and foxes moved in. I only got 2 last year and this was my first this season. I should be at 10 or so by now.
Hawkeye In PA never kept a grand total but I know he's shot way more than me. I only ever beat him once on a yearly total. I was laid off one summer and got 36.
Hunting Sod Poodles with a stickbow is about the coolest thing you can do.
Hope it works out for you Ben. Best of luck.
Looks like everybody had a great weekend except Ben!
Will say some prayers for ya, Ben!
