I had a buck take on a 3D buck target in my back yard, it broke off at the neck the head and horns. Also the body was on the ground. I could see were he ran at the target. Never had that occur before.

I just got back from checking my trail cameras and got a lot of photos but only three good bucks.
This is one of my bucks from the oaks. Not bad but.....

One of my other bucks from about a half mile away at the corner of one of the corn fields.
I put a ladder stand in late last season overlooking a trail and three weeks ago, I enhanced the trail by making it a little wider and easier for the racked bucks to use and set up my trail cam on the inside.
This picture was taken inside the thick stuff after the buck walked out of the corn.

Hahaha..... no..... not snow. It's sunlit filtering through the trees. It's on an inside edge of the woods about 15 yards off the corn field. My wife asked the same thing when I showed her.
I actually took a chainsaw and widened a natural deer trail to the corn field so the bucks would have an easier time going to and from.
The edge was extremely thick making it impossible for a human, let alone and antlered deer to get through and it worked. This photo was less than two weeks after widening.
The trail is about 15 yards (traditionally upwind) from a ladder stand I put up late last season.
I'm going back today to check cams for the last time before our opening and hope to have more bucks on record.

I also forgot to mention the bucks have started opening scrapes and started rubbing. I saw several scrapes that had wet marks in them that tells me he was there a little before I was.

you can kinda see in the first pic he has a bump on his back. i think someone shot him across the back or the arrow entered there. i have his left sided shed from last year. picked it up very early so i think he was wounded....someone else knows he's in there though!

I have a Moultrie Mobile MV1 and it works well. I have tried it on 3 different Moultrie cams with no issues.
I also have a Spypoint MMS and that thing randomly stops working and eats batteries.

Chiefdaddy- Spartan cameras. My buddies have tried Covert, Spartan and SPYPOINT. I think the Spartan is the most reliable and has the best picture quality. $5 a month for the Verizon service. It's a great tool and always exciting to get pictures.

One of my 4 cams is an original Cuddy Nontypical that still takes good pics. It's hard on batteries though. I set it up in the back yard after season to see who visits the apple trees and bird feeders. It's about 40 feet from the bedroom window and the flash going off at night drives my wife crazy(er).

Pulled my cameras a couple of weeks ago, but tonight March 27 at 7:40 pm, there was a wide, out to his ears 8 point, and a small 5 point. Would have though they had dropped by now. Also saw a doe with a broken shoulder. Saw her with the spotter several weeks ago, made me sick to see her in that shape, but she still looks fit. Damn they're tough.

I have been glassing and filming a few nights lately and seeing some really nice bucks. Based on comparison pictures to last summer's velvet scouting, growth is ahead this year.

Yes WNY in general has lots of deer like this...from the fingerlakes to buffalo and inbetween, its easy to find them. Most of the deer I'm hunting/ filming/ glassing are in Monroe and Livingston counties.

Saddlereaper is telling the truth about the number of quality bucks that can be found in WNY lake plains. I only run a couple of cameras but I have some friends in Genessee and Wyoming county that are deer fanatics running a string of cameras all summer and are lighting up my phone with some pics of some beauties. I'm surprised that more of those with the means aren't buying or leasing here rather than out of state ( I'm glad they aren't ). We've got the genes here we just need a better age structure. There are some guys with larger private land access you'll never hear from or see a picture of ,that are taking really good bucks (130'' and better) every year.

Swamp, I have hunted and spent a lot of time in both of those counties as well. What you stated is a fact. This area of the state could be phenomenal. Heck it is already pretty darn good - for which i feel very lucky. I grew up hunting where deer like these were never seen and probably didn't exist.
Using score as a reference- Between my cameras and local friends cameras we pick up deer each summer that are 130-160... occasionally a 170+ is found. But more importantly its not difficult to find a buck that is 3.5 or maybe older come season. The age structure could still improve, but by and large this area tends to produce older (and larger racked) deer then what the majority of NY does.

Not trail cam, but on Sunday (8/11) I scouted a piece of state/public land that I have never hunted nor ever walked on. Did 2.3 miles and saw very little deer sign but I saw 13 live deer! Got some great videos of Bucks that I snuck up on. 8pt pic attached (freeze frame of video). ???

Setup a camera with some trapping lure placed on sapling about 4’ off the ground and maybe 10 yards downwind of the camera. Was trying to get some images of a pair of coyotes who I saw traveling through that specific area several times during bow season. The coyotes did come through but passed by a bit downwind and did not approach too closely. Maybe they detected my scent where I placed my pack on the ground while messing with the camera. The fisher on the other hand aggressively sought out the lure and was determined to locate it (which he did). How many of you guys see fishers while deer hunting?
