You are correct, it has absolutely nothing to do with the DNR. My reading comprehension is lacking today.
It's part of hunting. I've had hikers, bikers, small game hunters, dogs, cats, lovers, berry pickers, foresters, and dozens of other people interrupt me in the woods. All of them had just as much right to be there as I did. I at least got a giggle out of telling the naked couple they might want to try another spot.
Both incidents were during the early bow only season.
Another time they really surprised me. Two of them were walking towarad me on both sides of a narrow corn food plot. One of them spotted me in a tree ahead, he did this funny whistle and he and the other guy did a 180 and walked away from me. Very cool, and considerate.
Make sure you are wearing some orange or put it around the tree you are in -- if you are seeing that many hunters around you. I usually don't go to my favorite local spot until after 11/15 for those same reasons.
Someone always looking to start trouble -
BigRed - better luck later in the season -

I share the same frustration with some guys squirrel hunting. In my area it's mostly mungs hunting them, and they don't care who is there. I've had 22s zing past me. I had a aguement with a group of guys last year on the opener. So much land to hunt and yet you go walking in the side my truck is parked on. It's common courtesy to just leave a person alone if you can.
Because my Mother always said - if you cannot SAY ANYHTING NICE ABOUT SOMEONE DONT SAY ANYTHING AT ALL -
Just saying -
Whatever -
Ps. Maybe share something positive next time? Maybe you will make a friend?
Nice job!
No one, except Jesus Christ might now what "pressure" you'll have. Maybe many show up...maybe many do not!
Also as far as bait - BigRed is all grown up - everyone here is sure he understands...except perhaps you for what ever reason -
This was my first post and will be my last…Neverbait…I am fully aware off the Wisconsin Deer hunting laws and that setting out bait, not more than 2 pounds per x amount of acres is NOT legal anytime between legal deer hunting dates and I also was aware that by hunting on public land, I am subject to ALL persons who legally have the right to hunt small game, walk, hike, bike, ski, and so forth…that is just part of life and for you to assume that my trail cam picture dated early September were over fresh bait…How can you assume that? Do you know me? Do you know where I hunt, why I hunt, or how I hunt???? Do you?
You are quick to slam others, as obvious in some posts I have read, however did you fully read my post in its entirety? I said I was NOT mad at the squirrel hunters as WE ALL SHARE the wood but I was frustrated…I appreciate all the comments on here but did not expect such attitude with what I consider my brothers…Yes I know a thing or two about real brother hood having just retired from the Army after serving 22 years in the Infantry…I love the woods, I love to hunt, and nothing will ever come between me and Gods Great Outdoors…
Brotherhood…Only Some Get IT……………………………..
BIG RED…..
You'll "never" get it - as you my friend really need to quit preaching and start listening!
Just because a "brotherhood" does not and perhaps "never" will exist for you really means nothing, compared to what it may mean to Big Red - He's his own man.
A "brotherhood" can mean anything from a close nit family - to close friends or to a club you or I belong too.
And yes, some look upon all of us as a brotherhood of hunters and archers more so than anything else and want to be part of what we all do. That is great.
Time has come to stop being a "dream squashier" to listening before opening your mouth and chasing folks away.
I too thank you for your service. I would not let the one person chase you away.
What you are seeing is really what Bowsite and other archery sites are like. Bowhunters are the most divided group of hunters I have ever seen. Many consider themselves to be elitists. Bowhunters bash each other for weapon of choice (trad vs compound vs xbow vs guns). They bash each other based on tactics (ground, stands, blinds, condos). They bash each other on things like broadheads too (mechanicals vs fixed). Mention a shot over x yards and out comes the ethics discussion because nobody should ever take a shot over x yards based on their opinion. Many expect to have the woods to themselves and want it that way all the time. Many have pushed to have gun season moved to Dec so they don’t get the tail end of the rut. The controversies here are SOP unfortunately and SOP with bowhunters.
Enough on that -
I hunt public land. My cabin is located on ten acres that is surrounded by a few thousand acres of erratic public and private land. Anybody familiar with the Sterling Township area, The Barrens of Polk County... I am in there in that mix.
I have not run into to many small game hunters over the years, but there have been a few times when they came through my zone and didn't even know I was there until I made my presence know for safety reasons. I don't harbor them any ill will, because I too take to the woods now and then with my .22 in the fall to pop a few squirrels. If I happen upon a bowhunter I give them a wide birth... If I don't see them right away I apologize and get out of the area ASAP. It happens. It's public land.
Big Red, does you handle here provide a clue that you may have served out of Fort Riley? I know several fine people that served there and desert storm.
I went to a new property and after sitting about an hour a gigantic sounding buck was coming right my way. My adrenaline was through the roof! Finally it came around the bend and it was a duck hunter's dog. We waved to each other and I pointed to where I've been hearing ducks all afternoon. In his way in he kicked up a few and off goes the shotgun. At first I think great....no deer will be anywhere near here now but then start hoping he'll kick something my way so I wait. 1/2 hour later I hear a flock coming in then surprisingly I hear two separate guns firing from behind me. One hunter starts running to the guy I saw earlier and there's another beds down in the pond that I'm over looking. I wave to both so they know I'm there and don't get shot. Well the hunter by the pond starts calling a flock in sometime later and lift his shotgun right towards me! I wave and holler asking if he can see me. He answers yes! He doesn't get a shot and I would hope he would shoot until the birds were clear of me but you never know. I was also taken back that after I waved to him he didn't move on but just stayed there. I know it was very well within his rights to be wherever he wanted to be on public land but thought there would be a general courtesy. I stayed till dark just in case by some miracle a hormonal buck would appear and also it was fun to watch the other guys hunting the pond/swamp quite a distance off.
