Well Saturday morning was chilly. I had not seen a thing so I figure at about 845 I would take out my rattle bag and do a quick sequence. 10-15 minutes later I hear a stick break right behind me. I slowly turn to find the fork standing 15ft behind me looking right at me. He knew something was up so he headed away from me every 10 steps looking back at me. I managed to stand and get bow ready as he was veering away. At about 35 yards(guesstimated) he started to turn broadside. I had a small window to make a shot, stopped him slightly quartering away broadside and let it fly. I caught both lungs and he only ran 40yds. He was down within seconds of the shot. I never ranged this spot until after I took the shot. It ended up being a 38 yard shot. Just about my max shooting distance. Glad to have some meat for the freezer.

Congrats, nice buck. Good shooting, at 38 yards.

Nice. It worked out. Personally, I would not shoot at a semi-alarmed deer at 35. 20 yards, no problem but at 35 it will take the arrow about 0.2 seconds to get there and a lot can happen. If he stayed put and waited for the arrow to hit, you must have a nice quiet set up. Congrats
