Hunted Saturday, Sunday and this morning. Saturday I saw 6 different bucks and about 7 doe. One of the bucks was huge bodied 10 pt I'd guess right around 125". Biggest buck I ever passed! Very cool to see. I have a lot more free time this season and plan on taking full advantage of it. I know there are far bigger bucks in the woods I hunt. Anyone else see a lot of movement Saturday? I've attached a pic of the buck. I bet he weighs 200 lbs dressed!
I've been out every morning the last couple of days too and have seen things heating up. Saw several bucks in the 130 class chasing some does around. Rubs and scrapes are popping up everywhere now, great time to be out in your stand.
That's awesome to hear guys, I can't wait I'm headed out this year for my first Ohio hunt, I'll be out from Nov 6-10. I'm from CT and to me that 10 pt is a Monster!!!
Great to hear that the bucks are starting to move. I hunted Saturday evening, Sunday morning and Sunday evening and saw very little movement. I checked 3 cameras which had been up for 2 weeks and there was no day time big buck movement on them. I will start hunting hard this Friday. I need this encouragement. Good luck to everyone.
That's encouraging, I will be in Washington county from the 2nd to 13th.
In Northeast part very little movement. All the big guys only moving at night....Headed a little south for this weekend.
Many smaller bucks on their feet this afternoon in Southern Cuyahoga Co. I will be hunting Morgan Co. Nov. 7-11. Prime Time!! I hope. Good luck all....
North East wind this morning and drizzly now.going out next week maybe after seeing heart doc tomorrow.warm spell coming.still lots of green yet.
I didn't see a lot of scrapes/rubs yet where I hunt so I made a mock scrape and hung a cam over it. The next day there was a scrape made right next to my scrape! I love this time of year! Wasn't a huge buck but still awesome to see! Keep this post updated guys! It's encouraging to read!
Encouraging post, hunting Ohio 2nd time 10-31 thru 11-5 from PA.
We're arriving the 6th hunting through the 14th. I'm thinking its going to be later this year but who knows obviously hope we're on the dates. Last year I got out there for three days "late" i thought 13-15, basically to look at a new property hunt a morn or two if it looked good. I didn't leave the stand for three days it was crazy windy and rain but the deer were on the move. Saw some great deer, hope this year brings the same. Good luck fellas. Come November..
I've always seen the biggest bucks of my life in mid November. However, I happened to shoot my biggest buck ever Halloween of last year. Anytime from now through November can be awesome! Get out there and post your findings! It's fun and encouraging to read!
I've been out every morning and evening the past few days. Lots of activity, bucks are on their feet , either cruising or chasing does. I've passed up several nice bucks, holding out on two bucks I've caught on my trail cams. Temps are going to be warm today, will see how it effects my evening sit.
Good luck Mike! Heading to OH tomorrow for a while. I'll post updates too. Good luck! So pumped!
Was able to check one cam before getting set for the afternoon hunt and got a nice new buck on cam. Looks like someone already had a run in with him too!? Daylight pic as well. Love this time of year!
Passed this nice old 8 today. 3 years of pics he hasn't grown much..Def mature but not what I'm after. Awesome to have mature deer that close though! He gave me a 15 minute show! Did a lot of looking around and seemed on high alert but never spooked. He did manage to tear into an unsuspecting tree in front of me which was cool!
Mike, I was done near you this evening. Had a Doe come out of a field. I did watch her most of the way. The only way I saw her was her tail was up an I saw the white flag. When she came into the woods, she was acting very skiddish. Nothing showed up. Been seeing a lot of Does and only one small buck. Two weekends ago, I got out of my stand at 7:30pm. An at 7:48, I had a 10pt. about 160+ go by my stand. Camera caught him going through. I also got several pics. of an 8pt. I would say it would go in the 180's. So, I am trying to hold off. davep
Still nothing for rut sign showing up in the NE Trumbull county. Just got back from Carroll county further South and very little sign and even less movement. Next try Nov 9-15, hope things pick up.....
2 years in a row on HALLOWEEN in OHIO! Buck I just posted above yesterday! 161" roughly Saw 10 different bucks! Shot him at 8:15am my biggest
Congrats Matt, real nice buck. What county was all this action in?
Thanks guys! Rough scored him at 161" beats last years buck! T county
Congrats on a nice buck Matt. I'm seeing lots of deer everyday, just nothing big enough for me to shoot at. Wish the weather would cool down.
Thanks guys! Good luck out there, warm temps mid week but should be out if you can..it's November now..keep me posted.
Good buck Matt......this one has been in the gym getting ready for me......I'm ready! Hah!
Thanks man! He's a hoss! Look at that neck!
Although it was warm yesterday, the deer were moving. On my evening hunt, I saw 7 different bucks, two of which were in the 160 class, but never got within bow range. Even watched a couple of bucks go at it in a bean field I was hunting next to. Lots of chasing was going on too.
THE BIG BOYS WERE MOVING THIS MORNING IN THE CVNRA!! MORGAN CO. HERE I COME }}}----->
My buddy just got in midday today. Saw a few this afternoon but nothing exciting. Hopeful for a good morning!
Yesterday (4th) was slow as crap
Today.....Ive seem 8 deer already before 930. 4 were small bucks!
Still SLOW in Carroll co. too. 3 of us here for a long weekend. Hope things pick up soon.
Nice buck Matt!! Bet I know where you'll be next Oct.31st. ;-)
Haha thanks! My buddy had a shooter in range today but no shot. Saw a few more but overall slow for an all day sit.
Agree with slow........just not typical for this time of year and relatively nice weather.
Treerat, was hunting near you today. sat all day. the fog did not burn off until 10:30-11:00. Nothing till 5:00. Saw a Doe and with 2 fawns. Will be out Monday and Tuesday. They are calling for snow by Saturday. davep
Keep at it Mike! Good luck and please keep us posted. Sure wish I had some good bucks to hunt in PA...lol
Well my evening sit yesterday was a little damp, but saw a lot of deer. Was hunting along the edge of a cut bean field, saw numerous bucks chasing and following does around, but nothing of any size. I have a few pics of a double main beam buck that's in the area that I'm holding out for. Looks like cooler temps for the rest of the week, should help with the bigger buck movement.
I have seen bucks chasing each morning......as I drive to WORK :-(
My neighbor shot a nice 10 pt yesterday near Pataskala at about 11 AM
Took my girls out last night in the blind and got skunked.
Hope Fri-Sun are good for me and everyone else too!
Dang man 5 times!? That is crazy! I've never had an experience like that with a particular buck. Sounds like you're getting close to killing. I'm pumped for you! 29 degrees in the morning shouldn't hurt a thing!
The things are HOT my aim is not! Try again tomorrow.
Hunted all day in Ashtabula county. All I saw is a small basket 8.
I'm gonna say luke warm at best......I guess I am seeing sone deer but nothing deserving of an arrow.
It got nutty where we were the 11th-13th, and i'm sure it's still going!! The cold temps definitely seemed to help out.
I sat 2 full days Saturday and Sunday the 12th/13th I saw nothing except 6 doe as the sun was fading.. I pulled my camera about 20 yards away on a huge scrape they have been using all year. Guess what!?!?! All day Friday while i was at work my camera was full of all the big shooters I've had my eye on all pre season. There are always bucks on my camera almost everyday, yet every time i sit I get skunked with the occasion doe group no closer than 60 yards. I've been trying to kill a deer with my bow for 3 years this being my 4th. I clearly am doing something wrong.
For the record I am proactive on scent control and no i don't spray every over the counter market can of deer piss all over.. I play the wind.. I will sit motionless for hours. It's really frustrating, almost to the point of me quitting.

Just Frustrated.. I am not fortunate enough to have an older generation pass down knowledge.. I've had to earn everything I know. I don't know why, but i just love the outdoors.. I'll attach some of the pics I have on my phone.. I just pulled my camera yesterday but I was too discouraged to snap pics.. i just closed my laptop..
Public Land Doe
Public Land Doe
Hang in there Rip. I am having a tough year for Buck activity also. I have taken one deer on the private land I have many pictures of several bucks I would like to shoot. I got to the point that I actually took a drive and hunted some public land to switch it up. Didn't see a buck but was blessed with another doe. Had several come in with nothing following them and love the taste of venison. The scrapes and rubs have been non-existent this year but iI know they are around. It happens when you least expect it.
Congrats....Treerat. Nice buck and cool story...
Awesome Mike! Sounds like a great hunt and well deserved. You hunted hard and were patient!
Great story Mike,
Beautiful deer
Congratulations on ending your quest. Well deserved !
Are the mature bucks rutting yet?
