First Bow Buck

Hey Guys, This is my second year bow hunting NY and my 8th year bow hunting in general. I got a great story to tell ya. It was literally a dream come true. I am on very low pressure land my landlord gave me permission to hunt. Lots of deer and quality bucks on it. I set up at the bottom of a steep hill that I know they bed on. It was Wednesday morning. The wind was finally quiet, NW at 5mph, perfect for my stand. The barometric pressue was 30.15 and rising. It was cold at 26 degrees for the first time all year....perfect! I had been in the same stand the night before and had seen 7 deer cruise all around me, but nothing came close enough to shoot. I decided that night to use this Tink's Power Scrape spray and put one mock scrape in 20 yards in front of my stand. I put a few more in on the way back up the hill to the truck. And when I came back in the next day, they had tore up all of the scrapes I had put in. So I was pretty excited. At sunrise, I grunted. I know guys have mixed feelings about blind grunting, but it worked for me last year when I grunted in a nice buck and missed. So I am a big fan. Twenty minutes later I saw a big body coming down the hill at me. Then I saw his antlers and recognized him as one of my top 3 hit listers. I have tons of trail cam pics and even two videos of him fighting in front of my cameras. So I nicknamed him "The Fighter." He came right at me and then curled left to right in front of me to check the mock scrape I made. That presented me with a 20 yards quartering away broadside shot. He never knew I drew and the FMJ with a Bloodsport Wrath fixed broadhead tore him up. He went maybe 50 yards and I watched the saplings sway as he tumbled down the hill. I have missed 5 nice bucks in 8 years with my bow. So I am still in shock. He's perfect. Scored 125 6/8 with a 22 1/8 inch inside spread. Currently sitting in second place by a little less than 2 inches at Klein's Archery big buck contest. He's a 7 pointer missing one of his brow tines. I love reading everyone's post and I am very happy to be able to share my own story. Happy hunting everyone! If you want to see more pics too my instagram is OnTheHoofTV. Just for kicks!

Bow shot - I haven't met John Nichol, Joe Guernsey runs the shop I think. He set me up this summer. Great guy. Helped me a lot and gave me my confidence back shooting.

Greenman40 - yes I did! Do you recognize him? Local guys are talking about a bigger buck running around the same area.

GetEmDrake! No one has talked about it at all or a second bigger buck. A 20yrd shot that "Tore him up" should at least have a exit hole?

Entrance wound
Entrance wound
Greenman40 - the picture above is the side of the entrance, I think his body rotating away in the photo you can't see the entrance on his upper rib cage. But I do have more pictures, see below. Guys were surprised this is a fixed blade with an 1.5 inch cutting surface. When he was running away I was worried it was too far back, but since he was quartered away it came out right behind his left shoulder, and like I said he didn't go 50 yards before I could hear him fall over. That picture of the arrow is what passed through and broke off right where I shot him. Sorry I don't have a picture of the exit wound I guess I just looked through all the pics I took.

Did you take him with a compound or traditional bow? For me, I always like to see the bow in the picture with a great buck like yours.

Mint - Compound Bowtech Soldier. I would have loved to get it in the picture. I was so far in the woods down a hill, I took everything back to the truck and waited for my buddy to come help me drag em out! Took us an hour.
