Hey y'all, I've been hunting at Iroquois County Conservation Area the last few days and haven't seen a damn thing. Anyone else hunt here and had any luck or even seen a deer?

Most if not all pulic land has it's challenges to say the least. I spent eight 12 hour days in Central Il. hunting seceral publis sites. The only 2 cool temp. days were filled with shooting opportunities and deer sightings. Once the weather warmed up and the woods filled with hunters things took a turn for the worse. As usual I saw all the typical morons we all see in the woods. We had the....oops I showed up late but decided to crash through the woods for the 1st hour of safe light looking for a spot....the I have a new flashlight and want the woods to look like a scene out of star wars ( even though we have a full moon and can see with no lights)....the ' I can stalk deer in bedding areas with a bow and a smoke'...... don't forget the I'm scared of the dark so I will walk fast through the woods with 1/2 hour of safe light left in the evening.....another favorite is the Ass clown who sees you in a tree well before daybrake but decides to set upwind less than 60yds away and strips all the bark off a tree trying to climb up to gis terrifying height of 10 ft. Then procedes to blow a grunt call every 10 minutes. Even amongst these "diehards" I mean Blowhards I was able to stick some backstraps for the freezer. Need some luck but getting out early, walking in farther and staying all day you CAN harvest deer on our wonderful Public Land Sites here in Illinois. Thanks to all the true Bowhunters out there who do it the "Right" way and practice good sportsmanship. Be safe, shoot straight, and enjoy the 2nd half of the season!

Better keep your spot mum savage if you saw no one else. That is a rarity. Dusktildawn, that was a great summation from my perspective.
I will be honest though; I can't say that I've never been the guy who stumbled around looking for a spot. It's rare, but on occasion it happens in the dark. It's public land, so you never know when someone else might show up at the spot you planned to hunt. Then you have to go looking somewhere else or not hunt.

Franzen.....I never hae or never will deny anybody the rights to hunt public land. I have helped guys find their way in the dark and ha e helped track and drag out deer for others. I love to hunt far away spots but some guys are unbelievable. Guess that just makes getting deer more satisfying on public land. Stay safe and shoot straight
