I thought feeding was ok but hunting over bait was illegal? Or is it area specific?

This is the time of yr our foods plots get hit. With cold temps coming next week activity will pick up. I planted winter rye/ladino clover for the 1st time in early Sep. and it has around 10 deer in it a night. Maybe try planting some late dropping apple trees.

If you refresh your corn pile or turnip site everyday so they can continue to get nutrients all through the winter, then yes I agree ;), plant your "bait" plot like lots of guys do.
On a completely unrelated note, my 12 acre "bait" plot this year is still providing adequate nutrients for the deer, and will continue through the brutal winter months. Didn't even hunt over it this year, but yes it's the same as dumping a 2 gallon bucket of corn a week before rifle season.

Woods- we have 4-5 acres of plots that last into mid to late winter. We provide protein and carbs for the deer when all other crops have been harvested. You would have to carry 2 gallon bucket per 40 everyday for months and that still would not even come close to the food we provide for them. Seems like a no brainer to plant plots one weekend out of the yr and provide tons of nutrition for the herd.

Yes it is, for the 1st time planting winter rye I could not be more impressed. I watched deer from 10 yards away last night devour it. The radishes are starting to get chewed on also.
