After the deer season's over who else will be chasing bunnies with the bow . I haven't done it in a couple years but a friend just picked up a forty loaded with um . Last time I hunted rabbits it was almost as if the rabbits are nocturnal now days .

What kind of tips are you guys using?

I have a bunch of blunts I picked up that I want to sling at them. I've heard some using field points with a washer.

Not with my bow, but with our 1.5 year old beagle who is starting to figure the game out. She ran three this weekend, one a nice track. My son, who is 11, is the dedicated rabbit pounder but with is 20 gauge. Running bunnies with beagles is my favorite thing to do this time of year.

That is a cool pic bloodtrail. Will your hawk bring the rabbit back to you? Do you let him/her eat it? Does your bird catch pheasants or squirrels too? Does it only hunt when you give it the "signal" or is it always on the prowl? Is it hard to call it back when it is in the prowl?

I got one today that was loaded with I think were fleas is this commom?

04-Jan-17
yes, very common. Lessens to a degree the colder it gets. Do not kill one and throw it in your vest, your wife will kill you when you get home and thousands of fleas are crawling on your vest or coat! lol Upon shooting them, we bury them in the snow to cool and remove the fleas. We return to pick them up later. Once the body temp of the rabbit cools the fleas will look for a new home. Remember to wear gloves when cleaning also, rabbits carry blood disease that is easily transmitted via open sore etc on your hands.

Crus Dad - Nope - they are very focused on killing and eating the prey themselves and I have to "trade off" with them to obtain the rabbit or squirrel. We fly them on their stomachs so it important to retain proper weight while hunting. The bird is in free flight during the hunt and follows along and pursues game when she spots it as we often bust it from cover for her. Once in pursuit there is no calling back.

Bloodtrail - Now that is impressive. I've never seen it in person, but really enjoy watching these birds work on shows.

Stycks, most of them have flea's. Let them lay there a bit. Flea's leave a dead body quickly.

But can you send your Red tailed hawk to N.D. to get one of those?

That photo of the dude with the hawk & rabbit,...great pic! It exemplifies adventure in the mix that is man-predator-prey-and the great outdoors!
