They drop when testosterone falls below a certain level and well, you know how it is... Young bucks will be sporting their racks for a while yet.
That pair with the double drop-tines... Man. Those are incredible...

I guess horns drop off early and the antlers stay on later.

The horns thing always gets me. Come on!!
When someone asks me if I caught one yet, I always say "no, but I did kill one". Its usually the same few people every year that ask me.

The "horns" don't bother me nearly as much as hearing Fisher "Cat". Might as well say Fisher "Dog". Just as stupid and incorrect.

OK, and I hate when people say "These ones".

It's all genetics, unless there is a injury or nutrition/Stress problem. Some deer in some areas hold them longer. I have read, deer farmers say each deer will have a time of the year that they drop their antlers within a day or two of previous years regardless of weather. Seems like I have seen more deer on the shoreline with head gear in March.

Zack you nailed it...stress and injury are the biggest contributors here, nutrition can be but for the most part we are good in that department. "I seen" instead of "I saw" or "I have seen" that just makes me crazy
