Well Writer, what's your thoughts? The loss of Dok was big but I think they have the goods to get to the final 4.
As long as they have their Referee crew...they should win the whole shebang!
Rumor has it Kstate is going to the MIAA to try and win a conference title.
Ranked 25th this week and we basically beat the Hacks already so...we're comin for the rest!
Dream on Kyle, Dream on. Game should have gone to overtime, no doubt. What's the record against your biggest rival over the past 30 years? Oh, that. Grow up. Seventh grade was a long time ago for you, all three years of it. Congrats on the great bowl win for Coach Snyder. Looks like I'm taking some of the K-State football players on a pheasant hunt later this month. Should be fun. Great kids, and some have never shot a pheasant?????
West - not feeling too good about inconsistent play early, but we'll see. Mason in there is like gaining two good guards. Have high hopes for some consistent play out of Josh Jackson, something we haven't had from our one-and-dones. Going to be a very good team, but in a very tough conference. Every game they have a big bullseye on their back so other teams have nothing to lose. It'll be a fun year, no matter. The school's been good to what's important to me - I've got one, my wife of 36 years has three degrees, our son has two and daughter one. All but one of those graduated with highest honors....but I killed more pheasants than any of them. (Jerrod killed more Pope and Young bucks when he was up there, than I did.)
Just keep tugging on it in the shower, Kyle, maybe you'll get it long enough to ditch the complex. Talk to us after you've won two titles in a row. Even your great Coach Snyder (my favorite CFB coach of all time) hasn't pulled that one off. Speaking of pulling it off, ...be careful, OK. :-)
Mike I'm sorry about your ego, this is a game
We were in the Fieldhouse last Saturday to watch them beat Texas Tech.
Major, major envy you were at the game, KS. It's an amazing place to see a game.
Trust me, Kyle, I know it's just a game for most of us. Amazing about everybody else just appreciates the sports. West and I pull for the 'Cats against everybody but KU. No matter now poor the KSU season, KU's successes,...same stuff from your side. Oh, that foul not called against the K-State player in Oklahoma- common the call goes for the home team. Happened in Lawrence. It happens in Manhattan. The technical on Webber, with only seconds left. - total BS for the officials. Never let a subjective call determine the game. Cats got screwed, big time.
Bad calls happen, its just the nature of things. A four step shuffle to the basket with 5sec left should be seen every time or at least reviewed, no excuse for that. We move on and as I said it's just a game man!
I have LOTS of KU fans around me and in my family, including coaches and guys that played college ball. The reason the majority liked KU over the years was for a commitment to fundamentals. That is no longer present in KU basketball, it's a bunch of "one and done's" for the most part and no "team". Bill Self is a horrible example to young players and other coaches with his tantrums, he reminds me of Frank Martin...well maybe not quite that bad ;?)
I just like seeing and screwing with the whiners when they are down...like at halftime last night...thought I might be leaving Old Chicago on a stretcher lol.
So, you'd rather Michael Beasely not come to K-State, and give fans that great season? Come 'on, the guy who finally broke the streak? KU has one, "one-and-done," player now. The same for last year. K-State math must be different is one is a "bunch." A good friend and I talked it over and he said , as frustrating as they can be, the "one-and-dones" are great for recruiting, bringing in some players who would like to be, then show and find out they can't be so they stick around. My buddy could have gone to the NBA after his soph or junior year but stayed...and has never regretted it. Wayne was only 1st team All-American and still has the highest scoring average per game since Self came..., so I'm sure his basketball knowledge is much smaller than yours. :-) Oh, they can't review travel calls, Kyle...it's a rules thingy. You know they had to embarassed as heck when they went to check the clock after that touchdown,.er....basket. Let me know when that stretcher thing comes...I want to see it, again.
I don't want to start talking about KU basketball this far in advance of the NCAA tourney, but I'm gonna bet there will be an early exit. Their post game is historically weak for their standards.
Post game is weak. Guard play is maybe better than any time in the Self era. Match ups will be more important than ever. So will foul trouble...but they've proven they don' t need to worry about that. :-) Most teams, the ones that make the tourney, exit early. Some haven't been to a Final Four since, let's see, 1964? Even a lot of old dudes weren't even born then.
Consistent under achievers, have only played to their seed 4 times in 12yrs. Went into tourney ranked #1 six times and won once. Self never has them prepared and the suckers with red blue & gold on their "fan gear" are to smitten to face the facts...JMO ;?)
Better to be a has been than a never was....guess we will just have to live with three NCAA National Championships!
sitO last night's loss was all on the coaching staff and had nothing to do with the officials. Weber had one of the all time worst "Chokes" in coaching history. You could see how embarrassed he was on the court. He never muttered another word to any of his players.
Kstate had 2 great coaches and managed to loose both. Huggie Bear is really as good as it gets. They should have paid him whatever he asked for.
Weber needs to go, but let's be realistic here...that was not a technical. Have you seen what mad Billy gets away with? I mean this year since it looks like he swallowed John Daily he's getting a little more sympathy but c'mon.
LOL he does look a little big around the belly. I love the Jayhawks and have been a fan since birth. I like Self but he has flaws. His style and philosophy just is not what I like. The way I liked to coach my teams was more in line with Huggins, Gregg Marshall, and Shaka Smart.
Yea, rumor has it he's been suckin Salty Iguana cheese dip through an inch and a quarter PVC and three fisting enchiladas...but I cannot cite my sources sorry Mikey ;?)
Beats what some coaches and K-State fans are suckin', Kyle. Can't find many faults with Gregg Marshall and Shaka...both will be Hall of Fame Coaches, some day. Weber made mistakes late in the game. Doing something dumb enough to draw a technical, was not one of them. Officials should not have let that call decide a game. (See, Kyle, it's OK to be nice, and not let hate and envy control your life.)
I mean who acts like this...really?
You stole my thunder Logan lol
Who acts like this? Gee, Kyle, I wonder?
Mike, you know me better than that...He's a little B____.
...Kyle, I know you well enough that if we had John Wooden as a coach, you'd pick at him, too. (Of course, it would help if he was still alive.) It makes no difference. If KU is involved, instant hate and condemnation. Coaches are competitive people, and most are going to go overboard from time to time. Roy Williams did it. Frank Martin never stopped doing it. Webber does it, sometimes. Bill Snyder's about the only one who doesn't...but I'm not sure what he does do, wrong. Never heard Bill Self make fun of someone because of their physical size, or say they have a "girly job," because they're a male nurse, even if they do regularly save lives.
Basketball KU leads 192–93 Football KU leads 65–44–5
Not even competitive!
K-State has won 20 of the last 24 football games.... not very competitive.
I must say, I try to ignore this thread every year as it seems to find its way on here in one way or another. I am all about competition and my two strongest passions are hunting and sports. Everyone who knows me knows I am a KU fan from a majority K-State family. Long story short is that a generous figure in my life took my brother and I to many KU games in Allen Fieldhouse as he always seemed to have extra season tickets. My dad tried his best to take us to Bramlage as well and I must say, those were fun times too, just not quite the same. That could be part of the reason my stance is like it is. I have the hardest time rooting against KSU even though many friends, family and many others are some of what I would call the worst type of fans imaginable.
Here's how I see it. When I look at any other teams from out of state, I don't take a preference or know anything about a possible in state rival that they might have. To me, they represent that state(even though, I know they truly don't) and are made up of "kids" from all around the country. My point is, no matter how much I would dislike K-State, or KU for many of you, I would sure hate for them to go out and embarrass or make the state as a whole look bad.
Not that its any big deal, I just don't get it and would much rather see a true rival be one that is an out of state rival like KU/MU used to be. It also doesn't hurt that I respect coaches like Bill Snyder and I've always liked Bruce Weber. Many like to point out Bill Self as being a cry baby or some type of cheater but I just don't like to assume that about anyone just because they are successful and I may be jealous or trying to find a flaw. In my opinion, they go pretty light on Bruce being all over the court. I like his animated behavior and excitement, but it wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't warned multiple times the other night and most other nights as well. Just an observation and thought I might contribute to this pointless topic that will never change any opinions.
Dylan, my posts are in fun though they do get a little pointed from time to time...guilty.
I disagree on Billy though, something just isn't right there. If you watched his tantrum during the TCU game you can not with good conscious say that was something behooving of a professional coach or any grown man. I call it like I see it, some KU fans would be better off doing the same IMO.
I hear ya Kyle. I actually get a kick out of your posts, as I hope you had known. It's just funny sometimes how some fans tend to keep closer track of the rival school almost as much or more than their own.
I really hope KSU keeps rolling and they have a good team this year. I really think it's only good for the game and the state when we have more than one top 25 team in the state. And you can't leave out WSU, gotta love the way they have made a presence in basketball over the years. The good thing about March is no matter how our teams end up, turkey season is close enough that we can forget abouy it in a hurry.

I thought the purpose of this thread each year was to have fun, Double Drop. That is why we bring it up. So Writer and I can jab at sitO. Last year was awesome when we all filled our March Madness Brackets. Much more civil than bickering over leasing and baiting.
As far as Bruce Weber, I attended one of his coaches clinics. Did not get much out of it.
Good point West. Kyle, I guess that's right, it's a good time to get our jabs in when we can. Lol!
I remember a number years back at KU when they introduced Mike Evans the KU people threw hot dogs on the floor, made a mess. SO: when they came to Manhattan when they introduced Donnie Von Ugly the air was filled with bananas, made a bigger mess.
Quantrill had a good idea?
The spread is only 14 lol...but don't worry fellas the Ref's will get you back into it in the 2nd half ;?)
writer's Link
Yep, total loser.
Probably why he got nominated for the Basketball Hall of Fame this year, and some guy named Izzo hasn't.
Dave...that was back in the mid to late-1970s. The bananas would get the school shut-down now because of racial reasons. Both were classless. That was about the time the great Ted Owens gave one away by calling a timeout he didn't have. We always said if we could have had Ted Owens recruiting and Jack Hartman coaching....
Hey, I see K-State got to shoot about 50-percent more free throws today than Baylor. Must be paying the
Sure glad those refs at Iowa State pulled it out for us. Tough stretch coming up...
Well the Chiefs looked horrible on offense. Might need to look at getting Tony Romo. Really disappointed in Justin Houston. If you are going to give him the big money he has to produce in the playoffs. He has been a bust the last 2 years with injuries. Of course so has Romo.
Houston probably shouldn't have been in the game to begin with if he wasn't 100% and it looked kind of obvious he wasn't. Although I was very amazed when he actually got to AB 40 yards down field. I really thought that one was going the distance. Surely there's no way they would go for Romo. I believe it will be Alex for one more year, we will sign berry long term and send Poe packing.
Nope, can't go for Tony Romo.
My wife and daughter STILL haven't forgiven him for breaking up with Jessica Simpson on HER birthday!!!! :-)
I would hang on to Poe. Houston has not done anything at crunch time in the last 3 seasons. Just look at every playoff game he has played in. Some guys just can't play through injury or they seem to always be injured. I think if the Chiefs release Alex Smith it will cost them about $7 million. This is the year to dump him as they can gain salary space. The Chiefs have serious salary cap issues for 2017. About the worst in the league. And I would run Eric Fisher out of town. He has been terrible every year. And Romo can get the ball deep to Hill and Maclin, something that Alex Smith will never do.
Romo can't stay healthy either....
No body can get the ball deep to any receiver if they don't have the time. The chiefs biggest problem is protecting the QB. If he doesn't have the time to let a route develop then it is not his fault. I would let go Houston and look at the O-line.
I would agree with that Griff. But even with time Smith is just not accurate on deep throws and doesn't have arm strength. Fisher is worthless.
I'm glad we switched over to the men's sport here...
True, cause your basketball team has played like a bunch little girls most seasons since you were, well, in grade school? The one with Michael Beasly doesn't count because he was a one-and-doner..."no team" that year. Did I ever tell you about the year when our son got to go watch KU win a BCS bowl football game,..and a basketball national championship...about three months apart? K-State's been around for more than 150 years,...and still waiting on either one, right? Oh, I do envy your two national college fishing championships. KU was going to have a team until the students were afraid they were hurting the plastic worms when the stuck hooks into them. :-) Good comeback against OSU last night. Shoot any whooping cranes while you were gone, Kyle?
OK you and the fancy lad pipe smokers win Mike...not lol!
I had a good week and not just for the views ;?)
Great looking country. Love the skiff of snow. Too bad you aren't chasing javies or some species of quail. I said QUAIL, Kyle,l not TAIL!!!!!
Quail hunt in Feb Mike, and maybe before ;?)
Go for it, Kyle. I have buddies headed to OK, and TX when the Kansas season closes. I assume those will be scaled quail down there? Walked with four guys today in Stafford County that had 13 roosters and 8 quail by about 10:30. Perfect conditions with all of the moisture.
What, you mean the part where a college pays its head basketball coach a $25,000 bonus to beat the person you say can't coach? When's the last time a bounty was offered on any K-State coach? Oh, wait, you don't have the set to deal with your teams, only try to tear down others....try. I saw something pathetic tonight, ...but it wasn't the KU game.
Nice try Mike, I'll buy you another Shirley Temple...Come on down to Lawton ;?)
Wasn't a try, Kyle. It was a fact....not that you've dealt with many of those when it comes to KU. Keep tugging on it. :-) I'll keep drinking beers...preferably Free State, from Lawrence.
Kstate was getting drilled in the first half. Don't forget about the Shockers.
KState made a game out of it, and that's not easy in Ames. What about the Shockers?

You're seriously going back to the 2015 season for news Mike? You must be seriously bored...or much much older than your floppy hat ;?)

Whatever, ...let's hope justice is done for the innocent and/or the victim. We've been through this once this year, and it was a false accusation.

Check out this one that broke today, too. ... If true,...and it's still IF...the death penalty, from the NCAA, could be warranted. No words...and I always have words!
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2689673-baylor-lawsuit-contains-allegations-of-52-rapes-by-football-players-in-4-years
Can't honestly believe they beat "Pawtucky" but I'm glad they did!
That was hard for me.
Don't worry, the ol' Kyle isn't too far away. Gotta admit, your washed-up coach, out-coached Calamari.
Kyle? Earth to Kyle?
Baylor has a heck of a team, man. They have everything it takes to make a deep, deep run...except for a stellar coach.
27-6 in free throw attempts. That doesn't happen often anywhere but Lawrence.
Glad to see you boys are arguing about stuff that really matters!
Can you bait KU cheerleaders with corn? :-)
They don't put in fake grass in the KU stadium because the cheer leaders need a place to graze.
The KU team is certainly starting to "gel"...they'll make great "cellie's"
Come on, Dave, get out of the 60s and 70s. Cherney...same crap I heard in second grade, same crap we said when Hartman used to put it to the Jayhawks. You know, KU football always gets more holding penalties when they play in Manhattan. Always! Must be the refs, huh? Not.
OSU probably feels even worse... free throw attempts for their trip to Lawrence were 45-14. :P
There's a box we checked when we paid our fees. "Funds to bribe refs." :-) If you're not getting the calls when you're playing at home, it's the fan's fault. Too bad the Cats couldn't beat a poor team last night, even with a decided free throw advantage. Kyle. You know my feelings. The pipe thing deserves punishment, then move on. It's not like that's uncommon up there. As per the 2015 alleged fight. Let's get some facts. Who knows, maybe he was attacked? As per the rape case...if any player participated, or knew it was happening and did nothing to prevent it....they're so long gone and need to be held accountable in court, too. I'd say that if it costs KU enough talent to ruin the season.
Mike: you are getting harder to amuse and please in your advancing years.
If 9 is a "decided free throw advantage" what would you call 21 or 31?
Well, Dave, at least I'm old enough all I remember are the old digs. Anything new is out of my mind within a few minutes. I remember the purple dye always tossed in the Chi Omega fountain when K-State was playing in Lawrence and all the alums had to drive by it. No matter how well frats guarded it, the dye got tossed in. Also remember when Ted Owens called the time out he didn't have, in Lawrence, and got the technical and the resulting free throws earned the Wildcats the league crown. Also the chickens tossed on the court before PETA put an end to it.
I'd call it a team with a quick four-guard line up that attacks the basket, and gets the usual home court advantage. I'd call the officiating as bad as it's ever been this year. Mason and Jackson got mugged a few times last night when nothing was called. Other way, too. I'd also call Svi's walk....an obvious walk. What do you call someone who would rather focus on hating an opposing team that focusing on their own team?
Our team sucks. No fun to focus on Bruce Weber's ineptitude.
I started coaching in 1987. In all those years, the officials never determined the outcome of a game. That tune is getting old boys!
Well, Chern. If he loses Monday, he's probably gone...assuming the KU team aren't all in jail. :-) What a mess. I smell a disgruntled girlfriend and her father stirring the stuff, and the media jumping to conclusions. But I have an obvious bias. Innocent until proven guilty, and except for the pot pipe they're a long way from that. No matter the team, I've always been hesitant to throw a young man under the bus for one mistake. Too many have never had a father figure until the right coach. For some basketball could be their best hope for a better life. Doesn't mean I'm not for heavy punishment. The alleged rape case has my attention. I'll give up an entire season before I'd let anybody off on that.
Drug paraphernalia, battery, domestic violence, alleged rape, and now vandalism...this is getting ugly.
You're really infatuated with that guy, Kyle...I'm beginning to worry a bit. He's all you think about. All you post about. Seriously!
...and the way his team played defense in the second half, he should look a lot worse than that. OK, make that 54-1 :-)
Paul Pierce played his final game. Back in 98', i got to watch him with KU beat KSU and go on to win the Big 12 tournament at Kemper. I rarely missed a game back in those days.. probably havent watched 4 games this yr..
Paul Pierce was special. That was during the 50-something in a row of KU victories, I think?
Hopefully Mr. Pearce will come back to KU as an assistant to Self for a few yrs.. what say you Paul? Lol
I hope you mean Mr. Pierce, not Pearce. I always had problems tripping over the mid-court line when I was younger. A good big man coach would be nice....we miss Danny Manning.
I keep hoping Wayne (Simien) will someday work with the big players but he's too busy with his campus ministry and raising a perfect family of kids. Be interesting to see how Kyle could make fun of him, really? (Wayne loved playing Kansas State, his senior night he hung 30 and 20 on them.)...kinda like Michael Beasly did his freshman year in Manhattan.)
Let's make it two in a row tonight!
Shockers are playing like the best team in Kansas right now!
Geez, Kyle...at least you made it two in a row...against the Jayhawks. :-) We spot you 12 We come into the game handcuffed by,..well...handcuffs! ... and still win. Solid game. Wade's going to be a beast before he leaves. Mason had a "bad" game, and kicks azz. West, and the Shockers are playing who? KU has beat a #1, #2, #4, won at Bramledge, against a team that's beaten two Top Ten teams. WSU????? The Cats and Hawks have to bang against big time big guys all season...Shockers bang against....????????
Pretty impressive shooting by the CATS! Good looking half court offense all night.
Indeed, but they're still 4-25 against the Jayhawks in the "Octagon of Doom." :-)
Kyle, Self's now 29-5 against your team. (You do the math...because they didn't teach us that at KU) Coach is clearly losing it!
On the right day, Wildcats can beat anybody in the country...anybody. Big 12 tourney should be a war, with any one of 5-6 teams winning it.
Only if that day happened to be when the good team they were playing played poorly.
Writer...don't you mean AFH west...the "Hawktagon" of doom???? :)
No, Chern... quite a bit of talent on that team. If Wade would play all teams like he plays KU. We'll see what your coach can do with them. Except for Baylor, they need to work on closing out games.
Full...Forgot about "Hawktagon"...my buddy Wayne called it "Allen Field House West," He was quite proud he was 11-0 against K-State.
Kind of like Coach Snyder is against KU in football. (Glad we only play those games once a year!)
You know darn good and well that if KSU pulled-off the "Sunflower Sweep" in basketball, they'd have t-shirts made. KU fans just high-five each other as they leave the game/bar and forget about it the next day.
But, but, but...the sign in the crowd said they own the state of Kansas, Cowboy? (Texas, they do own in football.)
Who started the trash-talking, Dave? KU or K-State fans?
I think that was someone from K-State taking shots at the KU coach, right?
Bringing up throwing bananas at a black basketball player? Does that one need to be explained? Really? (And the hot dogs were at Curtis Redding, not Mike Evans..because he played like a hot dog.)
Read my stuff. Plenty of compliments of the Wildcats, basketball and football. See how many who start the stuff do the same for my side?
Just a game if you're winning and getting your way.
Writer the Shockers can only play the games on their schedule. Regardless of schedule they have been as good if not better than KU over Marshall's tenure. And they are leaps and bounds better than Kstate. I love KU and will always be a fan, but if they have to face the Shockers again in the NCAA I would be willing to bet the result will be the same as last outing. Marshall is as good as it gets. They are 10 deep and defend as good as anybody in the country. They are on CBS Thursday night.
Good win for KU...and it looks like the fans were practicing for another early exit in March ;?)
4 and 25, Kyle, 5 and 29. One in a row, instead of 12 in a row.
Those are all the things you need to be concerned with...and Coach Snyder's health, which has many of us crimson and blue likes concerned, too.
And how do you know it was a good win,...you didn't even watch one of the biggest games of the Big 12's season. You surely had your head somewhere else? :-)
So West, you're confident WSU could have beaten teams ranked #1, #2, #4, #8 and #10 this year, including Kentucky at home? Yet the Shockers aren't ranked?
Marshall is a great coach, but the "only play who've they've scheduled" is weak, and falls on him. If the program is to be great, it has to be in a great conference.
They better not hop in the big 12 then...
You're right, three in the Top Ten really sucks, especially with one team that's beat four in the Top Ten.
Anybody have any feelings about Webber returning next season, after tonight's loss at home?
WSU played in a tough tournament at the beginning of the year. They beat OU and lost to OSU. The have tried to schedule KU and the jayhawks won't accept. They are very young and do not have a senior on the roster and are improving. Right now they are pretty good and they will be in the top 25 on Monday. They lost a couple of good ones last year so it has taken them a while to gel. Compare their performance in the NCAA Tourney to any team in the big 12 over the last several years and see what you come up with. They have been as good as any of em. You know I am a Jayhawk fan but I also like WSU as much, especially since they are the underdog. I wasn't going to bring it up but what happened the last time in the tourney when KU and WSU played? WSU could compete consistently in the Big 12 and if they jumped to the Big 12 Marshall would be stealing many recruits. They are in the Valley and that is good enough for me. They are a great team, coached by one of the best in the country. He runs a clean program with very few problems. Players love him and I guarantee you if Self leaves KU would be on him like a fly on you know what.
2 championships in the last 50+ years for the big 12! It's GRRRRRREEEEEEAAAAAAAAAT
No, two national championships in the past 29 years, numerous Final Four teams. How many years has a Big 12 school made it into the top five rankings,...rankings done by the coaches, themselves, not disgruntled fans who are only happy when they hate? How many for the Missouri Valley Conference? Not like beating OU is a huge feat this year. OSU has a losing record in the Big 12. Can't judge a team against another after one game. WSU could beat both, with ease, on a decent day. Any school would be stupid not to make a run at Greg Marshall when he leaves WSU. I'd want him or Turgeon, and be thrilled with either. But then they'd both turn to crap, according to K-State fans.
It' not a great major conference in basketball. You seem to be the disgruntled one :P. Maybe great isn't the word you wanted. Maybe you meant "power" conference. Or maybe we just have different indicators of greatness. Figured KU fans would be all about the national titles as a barometer of greatness.
Writer it seems hard for you to give WSU much love. Here is the best stat I can give you. Here are a few records in the NCAA tourney. If you can't look at this and feel that WSU would compete in the Big 12 then your are not being honest. And remember the screwing WSU got when the paired them early with Kentucky. And that game was the national championship in the eyes of experts. And don't forget Northern Iowa's win over Kansas in 2010.
2012-2016 NCAA Tourney Record
Kansas 12-5 WSU 9-5 KState 2-4 (did not make tourney in 2015) Iowa State 6-5 West Virginia 3-4 (did not make tourney in 2013, 2014) OU 6-3 (did not make tourney in 2012) Oklahoma State has not won a game since 2009
Never said they couldn't compete in the Big 12. Didn't say they weren't one of the best in the country a few years ago, but going 30-something and 0 is a lot more impressive when you're playing other schools that are ranked.
Do remember how they handed it to Gonzaga (#1 overall seed)...and I felt it would happen...with their great guard play. Still don't see them as one of the top teams in the nation this year...and either do the coaches who vote on the polls, but you guys surely know a lot more about it than guys who make a living at it.
So, what was Kentucky ranked that year they were in the "national title game" against WSU? How did people predict that was going to be the title game when it's that early, and a team is seeded that low.
They did give them the best game of the tournament, though.
So, if KU played Villinova last year better than anybody, and lost, was that really the national title game?
If so, that's the national title game in 2012 and 2016. Pretty good, though WSU should have won them both, naturally.
How many years you want to go back? 2010? 1988? 1952? 1867? (The year my family settled in the Lawrence area.)
Clip - you seem to like research. Go back and see how many Big 12 teams have been ranked in the top 5 those same years. Then do the same for the MVC. Coaches poll, please? :-)
If you have not noticed I pay no attention whatsoever to rankings. They mean nothing and that is why I don't watch college football. Bobby Knight never liked them either. I went back to 2012 because that is when Marshall got the program going. There is no looking back now. I am not arguing anything against the Big 12, I love KU. They have always been my favorite. I just enjoy watching WSU rise to the top. I can like both and both are pretty damn good. And WSU could compete in any conference in the nation. That's my point! And its the truth.
Hey Writer!!!! Who is ranked 25th this week?????
I'll never forget the WSU vs. Kentucky game in St Louis...I was there and it was in fact the best game I've ever seen. To top it off I got to watch KU get beaten by a bunch of damn trees lol...and I didn't even show up til halftime of that game cause I cared so little ;?)
Joe Lanardi has KU and WSU going head to head in the second round.
About time you cracked the bottom, Coach...and what happened to "... I pay no attention whatsoever to rankings. They mean nothing ?" Now it's something important? Go figure. WSU should have been up there at least three weeks ago, based on blow outs and the coach. Oh, last time KU was ranked 25th, or lower, was eight years ago. Yes, they now have the longest streak in the top 25. Most conference wins of any team in history. Getting ready for the 13th in a row. Oh, Kyle, your washed up coach has more consecutive conference championships that any D1 college basketball coach in history. How many does St. Bill Snyder have in a row? You remember being in St. Louis? Jerrod remembers being in Miami and San Antonio in 2008...when he watched KU win a BCS bowl and a National Championship, in the same year. Your team has, neither, remember? And let's see WSU do THAT!!! (Though they may do it again in football, before KU does.) Coach, congrats, but they should have been there earlier, I mean had earned the right to be there earlier. Kyle, yawwwwnnnn, keep tugging on it.
5-29, 4-25
Think K-State will make a run at Marshall when this season's over?
Tough to hang 109 with nobody else on the court. Impressive.
Peaking at the right time.
13...is that more than one?
We journalism majors only had to be able to spell math, not be able to work any problems with those number thingies....
Mike.....13 conf. championships in a row while impressive will always be 2nd to UCLA's run and thus pale in comparison. The reason is KU won only 1 Natty in that 13 yr. time span. Also, of KU's 13 conf. championships 4 are "shared."
When UCLA won their 13 straight conf. championships from 1967-1979....I am not aware that they "shared" a single one. Also during that 13 yr. span, UCLA won 8 Natty's (7 of those 8 were in a row) and went undefeated 4 times.
IMO, in terms of this feat in college basketball history and lore UCLA > KU. That sound you hear is me dropping the MIKE and walking away!
Earth to Kyle, Crested, Keep 'em....
Listen to the press conference. The coach who has no clue what he's doing said the same thing about UCLA. It's a dynasty that will never be topped.
So, 13 in a row isn't an accomplishment at all? None? Done by one coach who some years had no returning starters? It's just another failure in your eyes, right? Proof of a terrible program?
How's one in a row sound? Like the most KSU has in a row for any kind of conference championship in, oh, the past 30 years?
How's six, sound?...the combined NCAA tournament wins, total, your team has in about the past 30 years. Six?
KU has had that many in ONE season. WSU has done it spread between two seasons.
K-State may soon have had more coaches in that time frame than NCAA tournament wins.
The BS gets a bit old, of Cat fans snipping and sniping at a winning program when they've got, well, the search for a new coach on their hands.
Clipper wants to talk WSU. Fine, that's a winning program under one of, if not the, best young coaches in the nation. If he stays at WSU long enough, he could give the 13 in a row a run. If he stays and gets 14, even in a mid-major conference, I'd be one of the first to step and offer congratulations and give credit where it's due.
So, you're strutting and cocky because KU is second the top top dynasty in history, which was more than 40 years ago, and has the longest active streak?
13
4/25
5/29
.20 (That's K-State's annual percentage for tournament wins, not the average blood alcohol count of the average fan at a home basketball game.)
The sound you hear is me hitting the handle, and the flush of again dealing with crap from bitter fans who have nothing of their own so they survive by pulling at others.
Here's hoping Coach Snyder beats his fight with cancer. He's been the best coach Kansas, as a state, has ever seen. Sorry, Clipper, I'll take him over Greg Marshall. But, since he hasn't brought the program up to what Alabama has accomplished, the guy's a failure in some K-State eyes. Right?
Best coach and program in the conference hands down. Very impressive. Likely won't end anytime soon, either.
Mike...just to be clear...I didn't go to KU or KSU so I have neither envy for or bias against either one. My school does just fine and holds its own in both football and basketball (however not so much in basketball this year). Therefore, don't really care about the overused stats and figures between KU and KSU always provided in your threads.....at this point that stuff is just white noise. You can try to pound 13 into everyone's mind that reads your posts but thought I would enlighten others in the fact that there is an even more impressive run of 13.
Like I said, 13 is very impressive but even if KU wins 20 conf. championships in a row with 6-7 of those being "shared" it still won't hold a candle to what UCLA did in their 13 yr. stretch with the # of Natty's, # of undefeated seasons, # of out-right conf. titles that went along with it....no matter the era!
Not trying to be cocky as you claim above....but on this topic a little humble pie is needed in your case.

Here is an article I read today. KU is playing well, in my opinion, Frank Mason is better than Sherron Collins. Collins had more talent around him than Mason did. As long as injury and foul trouble doesn't plague the Jayhawks, they are poised for a deep run. Bill really seems to like this team, he has not been in heart attack mode on the sidelines. I always felt the last several years that he yanked them out to quick for mistakes, but he is letting these guys play. I am done debating WSU. I know what they are and there play in the NCAA will do all the talking.
Crested - the streak is 13 conference championships. Hasn't been done in 40 years. Never been done by one coach. Some say it will never happen again. It's an accomplishment. Sorry you can't see that. Read what the pros are writing about it, and saying about it. That includes players and coaches from those UCLA teams. According to you, if WSU wins three straight national titles it would be meaningless because UCLA has more? They've won three straight conference championships and will lock-up a fourth tomorrow. Helluva a testament to the program and that coach. Congrats to them and their fans. Winning one conference title is an accomplishment. Winning one national championship is an accomplishment. Sorry for the mix-up with K-State. My mistake. I'll stick with peach or coconut cream. Clipp...read the article. Part is crap. WSU is in, even if they lose in the first round of the conference tourney. They're in the top 25. Too many blow-outs. Too great of a coach with a great reputation. Marshall is peaking at the right time. I've watched the last two games. You're right. They can hang around a long time with the proper match-ups. They're deep and have the "chemistry" that's important. Others have made the same comment about Self pulling players too early, which gets in their heads. We'll see. It's becoming a one game season, soon.
I hate run on sentences...didn't even read it...they teach English at KU?
Sito I love KU basketball but it is a school of liberals.
13 in a row is nice, but at what cost?
http://www.thescore.com/news/1239570
LOL
Mason fell down and then I thought he was gonna cry...wondering how many packs of smokes he'll get for his POY award in the pokey?
I'm usually a lurker, I haven't posted on this site in years actually, but Kyle, surely you know that Frank Mason wasn't involved in any of the shenanigans that have taken place the past couple of months, right? He has a similar rap sheet to that other KU starter, Landen Lucas. Both are rough guys...lol
I love the jealousy of the want to be's. Rock Chalk
Mason is a class act. My favorite KU player of all time!
Guess you fellas can get your "honey do's" done this weekend, so it's not all bad right? Lee you're probably working on your feeders huh?
Good to see the men's team from Kansas win last night...hoping they can swing another against WV.
I never had much interest at all in the Big 12 tourney. I would rather see them rest. I like the way the MO Valley does it the week before. Get to rest and heal up injuries. 3 games in 3 days then the tournament on Thursday isn't good for a team that is not deep.
K-State might have done enough to get in the dance. Their penchant for blowing games at the end is amazing though, you ready to get rid of that coach yet Sito?
Yes I am Kyle, filling them with Cat Chow so the Pussy Cats have something to eat during the NCAA Tournament!!
Squeaky verses the miracle man Danny Manning. I predict a close game with Bruce once again peeing down his pants leg at the end, winner Wake Forest!!!
Kylee... coming down to Tulsa to watch your j-hawks? If you do let me know and I'll buy you some chocolate milk and donuts.
Congrats to the cats, they actually made it into the real tourney with last night's win, will they hang a banner now? Actually, I could see them upsetting Cincinnati now. I bet Bruce has saved his job.
I'm predicting KU to be the first 1 seed to lose to a 16...if anyone can do it they can!
Maybe that's because we're #1 more than any school?
Cat's can't blow it cause they're never #1?
Congrats on getting an NCAA win after how many years?
(Hope that was written well enough...I'm trying.)
Mike, you are a better man then me. I can't get myself to give them any credit. If they had a coach I respected I might! (like their football coach)
If kU can get an NCAA win for every arrest they've had this year, they'll make the Final Four with room to spare.
writer's Link
How many have been formally arrested, LTG?
Or, if they can win as many games as we had players earn All-Big 12 academic honors, we'll be in the Final Four, with ease.
If we can win as many games as Svi took steps,...we'll be in the championship game.
Fact is K-State looked good last night. Weber didn't choke at the end. Hate to see Danny lose,...but he's had some NCAA tournament success in a previous career.
Anybody remember what team he beat to make it to the Final Four way back when?
LGTBQ I don't know that they have had an actual arrest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never understand this bashing that goes on between both and I will bash at times but getting old/wise enough to stop.
KU should win and be better than K-State. They are a premier school in a premier conference. They get the premier recruits because they can. Coaches can try to hold young men accountable for their actions but aren't always 100% successful. It is too bad it tarnishes a season like it has.
K-State will have troubles getting premier recruits. They are not a premier college in the Big 12. K-State still gets some premier recruits every once in a while and will get some bone heads too. All coaches will do their best to bring in the right players. It just doesn't always work out.
I think we all just like to bicker..
1. Josh Jackson's - hit and run 2. Carlton Bragg - paraphenalia 3. Carlton Bragg - paraphenalia 4. & 5. Lagerald Vick and Josh Jackson - vandalism that kU is trying to buy their way out of.
http://www.kansascity.com/sports/college/big-12/university-of-kansas/article137546843.html
I won't count Lagerald Vick kicking the girl in the face because that was last season and Carlton Bragg was also arrested for assault but that was dropped.
Let me know when you get your facts straight, LTG.
You're almost there, but still reading what you want to see.
I'm just going off of what I read in the paper. If you can't trust your local newspaper, who can you trust? :)
Jokingly stirring the pot, writer. But, there does appear to be some things going on in Lawrence this year that Ole Bill and his toupee don't normally put up with. Jackson will be in the nba next year, but it will be interesting if Vick and Bragg are back.
As an Alum, you can't be thrilled with these stories.
Beat K-State and beat OU in the championship. It shows how long the conference has been competitive in basketball!
Redman not true. Frank Martin could bring them in. And you don't need the McDonald's all american's to win anyway, just ask Bob Huggins at West Virginia. KState needs a premier coach not premier players. And that is what they have a hard time bringing in, and keeping!!!!!!!!
