New to diy public land

Hey everyone. I live in manitoba and am looking into trying diy archery elk in montana. Does anyone know some good units for draws or otc where a guy could start? Do not have the gear to stay overnight in the wild so looking for units close to towns where i could stay? Not worried about cow or bull just looking for the experience.
