Thought I would share some pics of my 2016 archery buck and a lil story as well. Well it was a up and down season for me . Opening day I had shot at a good 6 point I had on cam all summer that was still fully in velvet. I hit him high and never found him. Well the good thing is he is still alive and well. Had videos of him after season ended . Well that wasn't the start I wanted . The days were ticking by and still havnt shot a deer yet I passed on does and smaller bucks , anyways it was the morning of November 4th I can remember the night before we had a cold front moving in and I had a great feeling it was gonna be a great day . Well I checked the winds that morning on November 4th and decided to hunt a stand where I had multiple videos of a big 8 I called the short G2 Eight. I got all settled into my climber as I started to get grey light . Wasn't sitting for to long mayb 45-1hr and I heard some crunching . I looked out in back of me and saw a deer coming so I grabbed my bow . I then realized it was him. Couldn't believe it . Well instead of coming down the run that came 10 yards under the stand he stayed out on the furthest run from my stand . Well it's now or never I draw my bow back and grunt stop him. I settled the pin the best I could and let it fly. I watched the arrow give him a haircut on the bottom of his chest. I couldn't believe I missed him . Was further than I thought . 40 yards. Hung the bow up in disappointment. Thought to myself you blew your opportunity for the season on a big buck. Not gonna get another chance . Now I was down and not very confident after what happened opening day and then this miss . Well the next day (November 5th) I decided to hunt another stand I had about 100 yards mayb a lil more from the stand I had missed the buck out of the previous morning . I was hunting the edge of a bedding area . I snuck in and got all settled in . About 45 minutes left of light and I heard some rustling and I looked up and saw this small tree swaying in the brush . Picked the binoculars up and it's was him. The short G2 Eight. He's 60 yards from me. I couldn't believe it. I took the grunt tube out pointed it towards the backside of my tree and hit I a few times . Well I got his attention and he started making his way to me. I picked my bow up and was thinking I can't believe this is happening . A second chance . Well he got to about 30 yards and never gave me a open shot . It was to thick. Well I watched him walk away. He was gone. So close but no shot. Well the season went on and I passed more small bucks and does hoping for another chance at him but nothing and now was eating tag soup as November 15th came and now archery was over on the state land I was hunting. Well all I could think of now is I hope he survives gun . I ended up going back after gun was about over to check my cameras . I couldn't believe it but he was still alive . Now I'm motivated as hell to get this deer . December 21st the archery season opened back up and I was back at . Saw some does opening day of the late season. That night before I went to bed I checked the winds and I couldn't believe it but I had a S, SE wind . It's exactly the wind I needed to hunt my best stand which was the stand I had my last encounter with him on the night of the 5th of November. Woke up that morning and checked winds again and exactly the same. Made the hr drive down from mass that morning hoping and praying for another chance . My dad had actually texted me and told me he said a prayer for me and good luck. Well I ended up getting to the tree a lil later than I wanted by the time I climbed it and got settled it was grey light . Was hoping I didn't mess it up. Well I was only sitting for 5 minutes and over my right shoulder I heard some leaves crunching . I knew it was a deer so I grabbed my bow . I finally see a body coming through the trees . Can't see exactly what it is yet. It's heading right to me and then I see , it's him the Short G2 Eight . My heart is pounding I can't believe what I'm seeing . Well he makes his way right to my tree and gets to about 15 yards and looks right up at me. Shit . Hoping he doesn't spook. Didn't even move a muscle and I was up over 20 ft. Well I could tell he got a lil nervous and he decided to cut a B line straight behind me from my right shoulder to my left he is angling away from me so I swing around to the left side of the tree and draw the bow back. He gets to the only hole I have to get a shot through and I grunt stop him at 30 yards I settle the pin and let it fly. Well the rest is history. My biggest buck to date . It was like a chess match between me and him. Absolutely blessed . December 22nd 7:05 am.
