Anyone else have a large amount of hearing lose ? I've have it most of my life ear infections as a child working in a shop for 30 years takes its toll . I can't hear the pitch of deer walking in the leaves for more the 30 yards maybe a little more . To counter act this I keep my head turning all the time been caught moving few times as well over the years . How do you work around this , set up were you can see longer distance works some places .

It sounds like you are not in a tree stand. Or if you are, you are not high enough. Is that right?

Mostly on the ground now but when in my stand I'd go 20 feet or so . Hunt on the ground mostly now

Make the back side of your blind (if a natural one) a little higher than the rest of it.i usually make a back and or a little roof just cause I get fidgety fast and less chance to be seen..

Hearing aids ain't cheap, but it sounds like one would be worth it. Not sure how realistic of an option this may be for you, but if you stand on a large rock you can hear slightly better than when standing on soft ground. Maybe situate your ground blind where there is a flat rock above ground that you can put your chair on (?) It's only a slight difference, but it's free

I think hearing loss is a big factor in trying to allow the use of suppressors?

Hi Paul x2 with the long run of ear infections as a child, left me with 15 percent hearing in my left ear. I do just about all of my hunting out of a climber so I rely mostly on my eye sight. The only real issue that I can say that bothers me is when they come in from behind me and I then I will hear them at about 40 yards. Either way just being out there is a god for saken blessing. I would look into getting a set of electronic ear muffs, you can turn them up and you will be able to hear better. This is the kind we use for work: 3M Peltor MT15H7B 370-SV Tactical Pro Neckband

Paul,if you decide to make the sides higher don't forget to compensate for whatever you're sitting on plus your bow height..i always forget that and doing last minute trimming when I'm actually hunting..my hearings shot too from crazy loud music,infections,machinery...i always wonder if im that deaf or are the deer that quite

Good hearing aids aren't cheap, but there are some OTC jobs that are OK if you can stand having EVERYTHING amplified. Much better move is to get programmables and have a really good audiologist program them for you....

I'd have some for myself, but my kid is first in line for that. He's got a bionic on one side and needs a new $3500 job on the other.... Hoping we can shame my employer into covering it....

I lost one of my hearing aides while trailing a deer at dark.Went back and never found it.So the newer micro aides can't be seen in your eat but are really hard to find on the ground.

Others noted it, but check with your insurance. I have no idea if it's an MA thing or not, but here, they have to pay for a set of aides every 2 years (I think that's it) if it's deemed needed by an audiologist. My son needs them from Chemo when he was 1 and my daughter was given antibiotics at birth that caused some loss for her as well. So we had to buy the first few sets. Thankfully now Ins helps and bought the most recent set. We should be able to get 5-6 years out of these... Fingers crossed.

That said, if you cant do that, you could try something like walkers game ear. That may help a good bit to boost that high frequency loss.
