I thought they already passed a bill that would allow DEEP to have a Moose or Bear season (if needed)? Maybe 2-3 Years ago?
Shawn, I'm going to submit written testimony for both. I will try to go, but I have a meeting I have to try to reschedule. If anyone goes, be prepared to wait, and wait, and wait. Have written copies of your testimony, you get 3 minutes to speak. Sometimes the legislators will have questions for you, usually they just look at you like you're a dumbfuk. And be prepared to hear all the usual Animal Rights people talking about how cruel hunting and hunters are, and how cute and cuddly the bears are.
I'll send my written testimony tomortow.
I wrote my rep an email to support the bill and he is a co-sponsor.
Thanks Ace. I read the Sunday bill. 5499. What is being proposed that is different? It looks similar to what we now have
Its all weapons all spicies but only private property.
Right now we have bow hunting only in management zones DEEP deems necessary.

James Doyle forgot to edit his letter.
2 letters sent, and we did an email blast to my club.
Yes Nehunter, back in 08 if I recall. An act to "authorize the establishment of bear and moose seasons by the commissioner" passed. I posted a link to it here several times.
FYI, If you would like to email Written Testimony to the Environment Committee, use this address:
[email protected]
Please remember that whatever you submit becomes part of the public record. Be polite, check your spelling and grammar, and do realize that cutting and pasting the same thing that 100 other people sent isn't that impactful.
"bear hunting?" I've heard of primative techniques, but hunting with no clothes??? Why would anyone want to authorize that?
Its just procedure to legalize what notme is already doing.
Yesterday they had public hearings on these 2 bills plus a few others. I hear that there were a lot of anti-hunters present. The written testimony is pretty heavily slanted AGAINST hunting as well. I submitted emails with my support for both the Bear Hunting Bill, and the Sunday Hunting Bill, and my email for Sunday Hunting was never posted to the website (my letter about Bear Hunting was posted very quickly). I sent the Sunday Hunting email again yesterday, and it's still not there.
I can't help but wonder if someone is putting their thumb on the scale.
I had to resend my testimony because they couldn't open the first one.
The had a segment on the 5pm news last night and they said the DEEP is recommended a limit bear season in the state because encounters have increased by 50% from last year and the bear are now all the way down to shoreline towns. Some female city rep got in front of the camera and gave the usual PETA line of "Can't we do something else besides kill all these animals since we're the ones who have taken over they land, we need to learn to co-exist."
I wonder what she will say when the first person in the state gets attacked while hiking or taking our the trash? Maybe someone needs to explain how nature works when it comes to wild animals surviving. They don't have guns, and they don't need them. They will defend themselves and find food the same as the human population, they will kill to survive.
Just checked again, now it's there. Maybe the email I sent to the sponsors and Committee Leadership (plus my rep) rattled a few cages. It's not too late to send something in guys!
Just a simple email, and you might be hunting turkeys on Sunday this year.
BBB, that was Rep Diana Urban. She is the biggest anti in the house.
It's not the bears fault we are building on their woods.
Diana is certainly ANTI Hunting and believe it or not she thinks fishing is cruel and would like to end that as well, As she eats her salmon dinner..
