Well, upon the request of one if my hunting buddies i attempted my first euro mounts last week with the 7 point and spike from 2016 season. Rookie mistake on nose bones, I know (I'll fix those). I have a couple if my first deer hides tanning now I will post when finished. Gotta stay busy in the winter lol.

Pretty darn good for your first time! I'm thinking you may have either over boiled it ,bones will separate and become loose or you used a power washer and put to much pressure on those fragile bones at the nose tip..what did you add to your first boil? Dish soap? Or oxy clean? Either way great job!

I think they're both fantastic. I would leave the nose as-is.

Yes DeanMan I overboiled it. I originally didn't think of doing the mounts when I harvested the deer, but my buddy who we process the deer together at his property stuck the heads under a tipped over dirt hauling trailer to let nature have its way with them. I was originally just going to keep the 7 for a rattling pair. Surprisingly some heat from ground and the maggots did their job right through January. But then what I was left with was the skin was almost tanned and hard as a rock. So in the course of trying to simmer it loose the extra simmer time did loosen the nose pieces. So next time, do it right away lol. I only added some Dawn detergent to degreased them. I still have them and maybe epoxy them back on, maybe not. Then they were brushed with a 40% peroxide cream for about 3 days and sat in window that got sunlight during day. Learned some do's and dont's during process.
