Hello, I'm sitting on 11 NR preference points and I'm looking to spend them. I have only hunted Colorado once and that was almost 20 years ago (have I been out of school that long already???) I have one 3x3 velvet muley to my name and I'm looking to knock down something a little better with these 11 points. I am drawn to the early September above timberline rifle tag since Im going to have to spend all my points no matter what tag I get. From what I can tell there is a little more land and fewer tags in 65 but its 50% private. The 48 tag is also good in 3 other units (481, 56, 561) which may open up more opportunity but that tag only took about 5 points to draw last year so I'd be throwing away over half my points (my fault for building up that many and not hunting Colorado). Anyway, is the 65 tag really "twice" as good as the 48 tag or do I have roughly equal chances of killing a class or two higher of a buck in either unit?

Check out the winter kill first. I don't know how 65 was hit or 48, but 54 and 55 were hammered this winter.

Thanks for the tip! I have calls into people at the regional offices in those units.

I wouldn't waste your points in 48, 56, 561, or 481.
