Is there cell service along the divide road in unit 61? I've got a son with enough points to draw 61. He would like to spend 9 days on this hunt, but with his work he is a little afraid of that length of hunt. He said he would make it work, but it would be much easier for him if he could get phone service. Any help is much appreciated.

Depending on where he is hunting in 61cell service is spotty along the divide road. Usually if you can look into the valley from the divide road and see Nucla or Naturita you may have cell service. Have him purchase an inReach and he can 2-way text from wherever he is in the unit.

I've found decent service in 61 if your up higher and out of the canyons.

If you have a chevy or GMC with onstar, you get a 5 watt base station cell built into your truck, compared to your 1/2 watt handheld. You have to pay to buy minutes, and it still isn't perfect....but it is better than a handheld. In the newer trucks, you get also get a wifi hot spot, so if something comes up at work your on top of it.

Had service at windy point and near the radio towers on south end, and then as others mentioned spotty else where.
