Birds starting to break up much? How's the gobbling activity? Anyone seeing lone toms out looking?
From: TwoDogs@work

I have seen lone toms our looking for the last week or so. Last Sunday afternoon I saw two toms by them selves at least 5 miles from the nearest wintering area.

Saw 18 mature toms this morning. Flew down from a communal roost. Typical patterns. A couple of old loners that didn't want to deal with hens, or getting their butts kicked by the younger toms. Three two year olds running together, gobbling at any and everything. Quite a few better birds with their groups of hens. One stud had seven to eight all to himself. Three or four were trying to herd 5-8 hens among themselves. Saw five toms, probably two year olds, following a solo hen. Watched 10 to 11 jakes chasing each other around just because they could, and it seemed like the right thing to do at the time. Good morning.

I tagged out late yesterday afternoon on this sketchy ol boy who refused to commit and come into the dekes fully. It didn't matter. He got to close anyway. :). Greg is still hunting. Hopefully he can get it done today. Solid start to 2017 season Good luck guys

It was a beautiful morning to be out. They flew down real early onto alfalfa, had seven toms displaying at one time, lots of competition but didn't like my dekes.

I miss the days of 55, 16, or a note from your Dr. :-) Lots of birds this year. Insane number of jakes. I saw 17 different jakes this morning.

Interesting Michael, I seem to be seeing the opposite this year for the first time ever. The past couple years the places I hunt had ridiculous numbers of jakes. This year not so much. In fact I have hunted 5 days so far, nearly all day hunts (only taking an hour or two lunch break) and have seen only 8-10 jakes total between 3 different properties. LOTS of 2 yr old birds!! It has been a bit concerning to me. Typically we have to wade thru waves of jakes each time we hit a call before we get to the better birds. This year not so much... That said there is certainly no shortage of birds overall in my areas.

Me and my buddy doubled up on Jakes tonight, it was his first with a bow and I kept saying any turkey with a bow is an accomplishment, so we had four come in and I let him have first shot and his went down right there with a rage, I then shot one and it went 5 steps and went down, not bad for a slicktrick, third bird I have taken with a bow and all with that little slicktrick. Shot placement is the key. both were 12 yard shots. Lots of jakes in our areas, waiting on long beards for the next tag. good looking birds so far everyone.

I recently entertained some friends from FL and OK. We hunted several properties in and around James Meads ranch from the 1860's. Thanks to Mr. Pearce telling me/us about his book.
Next up, a friend from IL who is having chemo treatments was able to make a short trip, he came home to visit family and loves to hunt turkeys.

Tagged out this morning. Pretty tough to beat but I would have to say it was my best overall hunt ever. Great footage, no blind, covered up in talkative hens that helped bring in the big boy. He has an 11 1/2" beard with over 1 1/4" spurs. Was a fun display. Hit him first shot at 20 and it would have gotten it done, I think, but let a second arrow go at 40 and head shot him(lucky, he was closer than I had guessed) and both shots were in perfect line for the footage. Hope to get my boy out and a few others but was a good season for me. Good luck to all.

Them birds still gobbling pretty good?
From: Ksgobbler
04-May-17
Never heard a gobble today. I could see three of them strutting and such. Dueled with them for 2 hrs and even got a hen between and got her to commit but those toms wouldn't budge. 60 yards away on the neighbor might as well have been a mile. But I saw turkeys each time I went out today. Jakes are still nonexsistant.
