Pelletize Lime in Bulk?
Wisconsin
Contributors to this thread:
Does anyone know where you can buy pelletized lime in bulk? Last year I just bought a bunch of those 40 pound bags at walmart for like $4 or $5 each. Looking for a place near central WI if possible to maybe save a little bit of money since we will be doing more plots this year.
Thanks!
Please this is not the FFA or a farming website. This is bowhunting only. Please keep posts bowhunting only.
Contact the Co-op in your area. They should be able to help you out.
Yes, please keep this to bow hunting related issues...
TYs, that's a great idea Drop Tine!! If they don't know - nobody knows!!
Tommy if you find a source please let us know. Food plots help my BOW HUNTING
Just joking guys - Good post!!

Exact same thought went through my mind when i was posting this..but figured I would give it a shot lol. Thanks again for any help!
I just bought 50# @ $3 but it's not pelletized
I bought 10 bags at Menards the other day. Going out tomorrow to spread and disk it into our smaller plots. Try to do this every 3rd yr.
Tweed, the not peletized stuff, how do you spread it? Assuming it's pulverized? I stumbled upon a Craig's list add for 55 gallon barrels of wood ash for 15 bucks. Thought about trying half of a plot in that and other half in lime to see if it really works as well. Figure it's plenty cheap and I always have a use for the empty barrels
I just use a traditional, cheap drop spreader.
I don't and I don't think most here have a food plot for our lawns.... I could be wrong.
No need to get rid of creeping Jenny but any suggestions on how to get rid of creepy Masterbait would be greatly appreciated.
I sure could use a source of bulk pelletized lime too but in the UP and someone with smaller equipment to get to the plots and spread it. I just bought 2000# of the 40# bags and will be buying another 2000#. My problem would be getting the truck to the plots to spread it.
I'm sure you can find some kids up in the UP with a strong back that could carry them to where they need to be and use a drop spreader.
Yeah it gets pricey when you're buying 4000# of the 40# bags. Good luck sir.
If you have a large enough tractor ,The Co-Op can rent a large spreader with the lime in it. They can come in with it and do it for You if possible. But might need a large field

I have trouble finding people up there who want to earn some cash. I just hump the bags myself. My coop charges $4.25 per bag and they load the trailer. I use a drop spreader with my ATV and in the small kill plots, I have a push spreader and a chest spreader. I'm looking forward to when the dirt doesn't need the level of amendments it needs now.
Prevention is the key!! Avoid putting the golden nuggets in the same spot so barespots don't develop. .
Good thread, seems very much related to bow hunting if you ask me. Some of you guys sure like to whine about nothing, almost like it's a hobby for you.
To the OP, I'm guessing if you're going the pelletized route that $4-5 a bag menards/big box store) will be the best price you'll find, in the past I've found the farm stores/feed mills/co-ops are more per bag. I wonder where Happy is shopping and paying $4.25 a bag?
Depending on the size of the plot and the access, sometimes it's way more cost effective to find a neighboring farmer and see how much $ he'd charge you to spread some pulverized/ag lime on your plot when he does his own stuff, assuming you're fairly close to ag land. Good luck and have fun with it!
" I have a push spreader and a chest spreader." Happy what kind of chest spreader do you have? Looking to get one.
We spread pellet and powdered lime by hand. Put in as much as you can handle in a 5 gallon paid and spread like you do in the barn. You get good coverage. I've done up to a ton my self in an afternoon. It's tiring, a good work out.
I buy from Menards, Walmart and the Farm's Cooperative in Tomah. I buy when I have time to spread.
I was hoping to do some tomorrow. The kids are around, my brother as well. We can do a ton in no time!
Great Thread!

Mel's in Escanaba, MI. I might have got a discount since I bought 2000#s at a time. I paid the same last year when I bought 1000#. I buy my 19-19-19 there too and get 50# bags for $14.95. Mel's was a good find for me when I bought land in the UP. There is Tractor Supply Store in town and they had 40# pelletized lime for $3.95 per bag on sale last month. Unfortunately, I could not take get there to get some.

I have the Solo in the link and like it very much.
Has anyone ever spread lime with an atv spreader. I'm looking at the Moultrie at Cabelas.

RJN, I don't have one that connects to the ATV per se because I have a back seat mounted on mine. I use a pull behind I bought from Fleet Farm.
I have a cheaper pull behind but some of our plots are on slight hill sides and the spreader tips over. Would like one that mounts to back rack of atv.
I have the cheap moultrie one from cabelas and am very happy with it. I spread pelitized lime but doubt the pulverized would spread well. I mounted on the front rack so I can leave the fimco sprayer on the back rack. It's nice you can see the spread pattern better but absolutely make sure you wear sunglasses and keep your mouth closed. Fertilizer is pretty corrosive so wash your quad after your done. For those of us without cultipackers, having a front mount is one free pass too if using the atv tires to pack seed down
