Here's a question--at any given moment, how many bears do you think are east of 495? And of those, how many do you think are wanderers vs residents?

If I had to put a number on it, I would say at least 20+. I live 20 mins over the border in NH (about on the 495 line) and I have seen 3 in the past 12 months, got cam pics of 2, and seen countless bear tracks in the woods.

In the western end we have 1000's but in all my 38 years I have seen a total of 4 or 5. Damn ghosts in these parts.

Thought I would mention that I checked my cameras and the eastern MA raccoon and coyote populations are thriving, in case anyone was worried.

East of 495 is a pretty big area. I've seen a few up in the Danvers / Middleton area. read reports of some harassing farms in Haverhill / Lawrence which are right on 495. I'd say there is a decent population in that area.

Seen bears in Danvers/Middleton or coyotes?

Here's my guess. I'd say 50+ east of the western most part of 495. I think half are residents and half transients. There has got to be a reason the state allows hunting these critters throughout the state. Happy Easter gang. Let's Go

Ebow, definitely bears, or rather a bear. walked by my stand during shotgun season up on the Boxford line. so more Middleton / Boxford rather than Danvers. this was a couple years back but I still talk to guys who hunt that area. sightings are rare but the sign is there.
