What is CDOW's reasoning for releasing big game draw results in June? I notice states like AZ and MT are earlier which permits additional time to scout.

So they can hold on to your money longer

And now with the passage of House Bill 1321 we get to pay more and wait just as long!

My understanding is that they don't get to gain interest on the application dollars. Its just held and returned.

I think we also have the latest draw entry cutoff date too though! Which is kind of nice in a way and kind of not so nice in other ways. And for the other comments, they aren't allowed to invest and risk the money, and they have it for basically two months or less, where would they invest it at that would pay enough interest to be worthwhile that there is no risk of losing money? Have you looked at what banks are paying for interest on a savings account? And why would you care if the money is going to fund the same stuff that your licenses fund?

I'm not sure why it takes so long but it would be nice to know ASAP so I can start scouting.

Still a number of drawings out there to apply for - just did Nevada yesterday, Montana is May 1, Wyoming Deer and Antelope is still out there, Oregon is coming up...
Sure would be nice if CO would follow suit with other western states and just take the app fees and a hunting license fee to save them a lot of money and not have to print, sort, and mail back all those refunds. That should speed up the process exponentially and they could get the results out much sooner.

I believe it will be all paperless applications next year so that should speed it up a little.

I believe they are still counting animals and deciding how many tags to issue. They have to wait so they can account for winter kill.

Nothing's stopping you from scouting, regardless of the draw

^^^Yeah there is, I don't know where I'm hunting, money, time off work etc.. Have to make it count for where I'm hunting at!

One poster already identified it. They are still in the process of counts and determining license increases and cuts.
By state law they are not allowed to old fees for interest. Even if they did the minimal amount of interest they might make would not cover the cost of sending back the checks for unsuccessful applicants.
Note that most years we get our results back before the draw even closes for WY.

coelker you are wrong on the interest. Click the link and go to fact sheet and tell me where the 13.7 million in interest and donations came from as I guarantee most of that total is interest http://cpw.state.co.us/aboutus/Pages/AnnualReports.aspx
