I went to the same area where I had a run in with a coyote the other day (see coyote kill thread) It was real quiet with one bird gobbling way off in the distance. I gave a few calls, not expecting much, and a jake came out of the woods and strolled over to my decoy.

Way to go Gene. Is that a Mossberg you're using?

BBB Yup, it is a Mossberg 835 which I bought in 94. It has served me well!

Ah yes the 90's version of the 835 Ulti Mag...nothing kicks harder than that gun. I've seen bloody noses, busted lips and shiners come from shooting that beast!

Nice Bird!

While not the same, I have a 535 Mossberg which has the 3.5" option. I tried it once. I'm just not man enough to shoot that load. Ugh. 3", ok, that's doable. Point being, I hear you guys on the 3.5" option... Ooph!

That's what I push...835 mossberg with 3.5. Kicks like a mule but def a long range and great pattern. Congrats on the bird Gene!!

You guys let me know if you don't have any use for the wingfeathers, eh?

Looks like fun! Got 3 dekes so far, but no calls and no clue how to go about it...

Much clearer on what to do with feathers.

GF, If I get another bird, you are welcome to take the wings. That is the only part of the bird that I do not use. We eat the breast and thighs, drumsticks go into soup or game stock and the heart, liver and gizzard are cut up,cooked and given to my dogs.
