I know the answer to this question may be varied from pre-rut to peak rut to post rut, but I am curious the opinion on desired timing for a week of hunting in north-central KS.

I have a friend of mine that has invited me to hunt his farm this fall and left it to me when I would like to come. His suggestion was halloween. I suspect if it is warm then that won't be appealing. The moon looks to be pretty bright the first week of November (full on the 6th). Generally, things being equal I elect to avoid the full moon....

Thanks in advance!

2nd or 3rd week and you'll be good

I would say Nov. 7th to the 20th. I have hunted Kansas 3 times. Once in Central Kansas and twice in NW Kansas and I have shot 3 bucks on Nov. 11th, 12th and 13th. Shawn

If you can predict when we're going to get some moisture, following a warm spell, and then it turning cold...let us all know. The rut is about the same time every year, but weather conditions can determine how much of it happens during the daytime. I've done more stories on HUGE bucks Nov. 18-25 than any other time. My favorite day is the 19th, but have had some great hunts around the 20-23rd as bucks go trolling for a last doe.

October 31st to November 27th should be best this year.

Thanksgiving week, no doubt. There will even be a few pheasant hunters out and about to keep them stirred up for you, but not like the riot of opening weekend.

Highly depends on the property and crops if any..

Thanks very much for the helpful posts. If one of you ever comes to SC and I can provide any direction on hunting or whatever, please send me a PM and I will do my best to reciprocate.

non-residents seem to see the biggest bucks in late September or late December

My group's 3 best bucks were taken on the 14th in 2014, the 14th in 2015 and on the 13th in 2016.

Do you want to see peak activity or a chance at a giant? I would agree with later in November for a true giant to mess up and be cruising still, but if you want to see peak movement I would stick to first or 2nd week.

It is all a crap shoot. Right place right time. Don't over think it, go hunt and have fun!!

Good luck, Matt
