Do hens really have to get with a gobbler to produce eggs that will hatch? Thanks, Bob

Yes, without a gobbler the eggs will not hatch.

Male sperm can last about 50 days after breeding so if a hen loses her nest she can lay another clutch without having to breed again . But yes, they have to be bred first to lay fertile eggs.
