Has anyone seen behavior like this before? I have seen deer tracks in the snow pawing at a old gut pile before but never visually seen deer eating bones or meat.

I think they are actually omnivores.

I have put cam on gut piles and regularly got deer pawing through them to eat corn and alphalfa that was exposed after the stomach was torn open by crows. Pretty neat sequence. I don't think any of them were actually eating any of the flesh or organ material left behind just the stomach contents.

I think anything is possible.
I read somewhere years ago that there is documented proof of deer eating fish somewhere around the great lakes.

Has anyone thought about the fact that there are people who are watching other dead people decay?

CM - I too read the story of deer eating fish along the Lake Michigan shore. That was a long time ago and I think it was somewhere north of Milwaukee.

I'm being cremated when I die. My ashes will be dumped out from my favorite hunting spot at the time of my death. I'll be happy knowing I'm going to be eaten by the earth and the plants I feed will be eaten by deer.
The task of my ash dumping will be carried out by my youngest in the fall of the year. He will dip his broadhead in my ashes and hunt that spot that day. Hopefully he sends me through the heart and not the guts!
