Well it's that time of year. Bill V, Walt (not sure if he is on bowsite) and myself are prepping for the long trek to western Quebec in search of a Canadian Black bear. I will post some photos before we head north, and hopefully a story of success when we return. As you know, Ron is a huge supporter of the UBP, and the three of us are going on hunts that were donated by Ron.

Hey Art We leave 2 weeks from today. My back room looks like a landfill will all the debris piled up. Once you start cutting the meat scraps for bait, you will in fact smell like a bait pile. We wear the same clothes to bait in every day. You will burn those clothes when the hunt is over. I'll post some photos when we start loading the trailer.

Hey Smoke Yes we are in the black river camp. Joe Nitterour also has a group in that camp the same week. Should be fun. Hunting the same string I have hunted with Hank since 1993.

Certainly will do that Dan. It's a great time up there either way, but bringing a bear down that logging road to town makes the ride "bearable"!

Well this is the busy weekend. ATV's get loaded on trailer, treestands, climbing sticks and gas cans. Hard to believe that this time next week we will be getting ready for our first nite on stand. Been prepping hard for the last 3 weeks. Wishing that Hank was able to make it, but there is always next year.

Morning Ed
The drive into fort coulonge is pretty straightforward, with customs being the only snafu. Once you get fuel in town, it's a 69 mile ride into camp. That ride has taken 3 hrs because the dirt road was that bad. That is the only unknown. I don't drive faster than 40, and many times 25 is too fast.

Yeah, I was thinking 15 hrs or so. Well have a safe trip guys!

Art The only difference is that in PA they charge you a toll for the privilege of driving on something that resembles a highway.

All my bear hunts but one, have been 15 hours or more. One was only like 7 Hours from my house thats in Susquehanna Co and I got a bear first hour in stand.
If you can post some up dates, but thinking you won't be able to where you're at. Come back and post a semi live hunt. Guys here on bow site love live hunts. I'd post on the bear main forum. Lot of guy will follow it. Enjoy yourself. Ed

We returned last night around 11:00. I will post a daily log of events. Having hunted with "rain man" (Walt) , and "bad luck" (Bill) it was the wettest, and least sightings bear hunt I have been on. That being said, the last night was interesting!!! Stay tuned.

Saturday day# 1. Up around 6:30a. Had cereal and coffee. Got the ATVs ready with stands, and gear. Headed out around 8:15. Goal today was to get cameras on all baits, and 3 stands up. To that end we got everything completed, with stands at tower 3, tower 1 and the Nelson bait. Back to camp for bacon and eggs. More camp chores, showers and prep for the afternoon sit. Temps in Upr 70's, with it looking like rain. We headed out around 4:30. Bill V on tower 3, Walt on tower 2, I on Nelson bait. No bears seen, and it did in fact rain. Pretty hard at times. The porta roof kept me dry. Back to camp for dinner, barley pop, and bed.

Sunday. Day2 Started off pouring. We didn't leave til almost 10:00, no point in getting drenched. Bridge, Nelson, and princess bauts were hit We put a stand on 21 for Walt. Got back at 1:30. We were soaked anyway as it rained while we were out. I decided to move to the princess stand, as it was named after my daughter, from her 2015 hunt. I put the stand up and climbed in for the hunt. Bill sat Nelson, Walt sat 21. Weather turned nice as it was drizzling on the way out. No bears were seen. Back for dinner, then hit the hay for tomorrow. Hoping for some activity out on the tower baits.
