Have you listened to episode 70 of the Meateaterpodcast about CWD.
It's a facinating listen and probably the most scientifically dense podcasts Steve has put out.

well all I know Wis is going the wrong way,,,,,,,,,, get rid of all that baiting,,,,, what a joke
The podcast is Wisconsin centric and lays out some pretty interesting information.
Are some people in wisconsin still worrying about cwd? I thought by now most people realized cwd is a non-issue, nothing to be concerned about at all. The podcast appeared to be longer than 60 seconds, nothing related to cwd is worth much more than 60 seconds of my (or anyone's) time. CWD=yawn.
From what I've heard. There's a new study on CWD and they are saying there could indeed be risks. I tested my deer I shot last year in south eastern wi. Any deer I shoot in an infected area I will continue to test. If I ever shoot one that is infected, I will throw the deer away. I will not eat itvand I will not feed my kids it. It's just not worth it to me.
It's an excellent podcast that goes into quite intricate detail about it, definitely worth your time.
it's a great listen. I learned a lot of things I didn't know about CWD.
How anyone could think that a disease that is 100% fatal in infected animals and has an infection rate of more than 25% in some counties in WI is not an issue to worry about is insane.
Don't think we have a reliable live test yet. So it might not always be fatal.
"How anyone could think that a disease that is 100% fatal in infected animals and has an infection rate of more than 25% in some counties in WI is not an issue to worry about is insane."
What's insane is you trying to mislead people to prove a point that might not even be something you believe in but rather a song the DNR requires you to sing. 100% fatal in infected animals? So no resistance can be built up in deer that have CWD? I'd love to see documentation that validates any of that garbage.
"I tested my deer I shot last year in south eastern wi. Any deer I shoot in an infected area I will continue to test. If I ever shoot one that is infected, I will throw the deer away. I will not eat itvand I will not feed my kids it."
If I were as worried about this as you seem to be I wouldn't restrict my testing to just counties where the DNR has found CWD. There are many people (myself included) that feel CWD is in every county in WI, it just hasn't been "found" in every county quite yet. If you really want to be safe, you should have every deer you plan to consume tested no matter where in WI it came from.
DNR is doesn't seem interested if finding more CWD, at least not here. I had a horrific sick doe here and they didn't care. The other deer shunned her and her nub. Then she died. DNR still didn't care. Next spring her nubby became a yearling and he started to look sickly and the other deer snubbed him. DNR didn't care. He didn't make it to 2017, they still didn't care. I have dead and sick birds here now, the cat seems to have died (AWOL anyway) and last Sunday a dead fawn ( I only ever saw one fawn so far this year). DNR doesn't care. They weren't concerned about the other 7 unexplained dead deer in recent years either. All of this in a 200 yard radius circle. Move along ... nothing to see here folks...
"all this in a 200 yard radius"
Are you poisoning them or something or is it time to clean out the out house?
For once hunterR I won't disagree with you.
That's a load off my mind, it was really starting to bother me too. Well, if I had known you always disagree with me it would have bothered me. Sometimes it's better not knowing. **hugs**
You shouldn't be so surprised. No thanks to the **hugs** I'm not gay..
I don't think anyone said you were? Chill bro, it's all good. **manly handshakes**
I'm not gay either but I've never been afraid to hug another man. Regarding this topic, it interests me. I've never tested my deer Regardless of where I've shot them. Maybe that's why I'm in the situation I am. If I start getting crazier just cut off my head and send it to the dnr. Until then I'll eat what I kill and hope for the best.
Woods- the average food plotter has maybe an acre or two of plots. So do you want to ban farming because farmers grow 100s of acres of crops where deer congregate and feed? Silly to think food plots are spreading cwd, lol.
Woods- what about dumping corn, mineral, or hanging scent during the rut?
"Bait plots however directly involve congregating deer to the same soil and it involve plants that take up the infectious matter and creates a CWD salad bar."
I never thought about plants, from here on out I'll think twice before grabbing a blade of grass and chewing on it. Not to mention the berry bushes could be infected with cwd too. Wonder if they can test berries for cwd I'd hate to not be able to eat them anymore.
This is silly talk about food plots. If cwd is in an area. All major food sources will get hit. Oak trees, farm fields, mineral and corn sites. It's not just food plots. There is nothing you can do to prevent the spread.
well no one baits more and for longer than the UP, but no CWD up there...... just making a observation......
Look bottom line is this, in my opinion..... real farming is worlds away from food plots,,,,,,
When we had just real farming, and no baiting, (except for bears), and good woodland mgt, and no deer farms, we had no problems and plenty of deer....
A few years ago I whacked a 6X6 Elk in a CWD hotzone in CO . I asked a processer in Craig if I should get the head tested for CWD . HE said 99 % of the hunters & none of the poachers bother to test their Elk or Mulies . 20 years & still no CWD deaths . A CO Warden told me that CWD is mention once in while by a WI nr .
