BT - keep me informed on how you're doing. Would love to have you do a live hunt or at least a daily update. I filmed myself at the end of every day with a journal type update. Years later I find it so interesting to re-live each day of the hunt. Good luck!!

Bob, I go to sleep at night dreaming of things to piss you off.
Always wanted to hunt the Eagle Cap. We used to hunt the Mountain range (Elk Horns) across the valley, we always said, one of these years we have to get over there to hunt them. If I have time I'm going to try to get some days in in Idaho on the way back.

jax - you're going to hunt mountain lions? From what I know that's a pretty hard deal, lots of running around with dogs. You doing that with a bow? Even harder and not sure I'd want to mess with that.
Good luck with it.

What the hell was he doing? You don't gut an elk, you quarter them out. Easier process that gutting, but the carry out is tough.

Im from McMinnville Or, family has a farm out there. I go back every year to see my family My grandfather passed a few months ago so now I really don't NEED to go to my home town since my parents have a motorhome and all other family has campers. So I'm going to be doing Elk hunts and making a family camping trip out of it. Plus you cant beat their price for Disabled Vet tags

Has anyone else applied for the PA elk hunt? I am up to 14 points in that draw. I am looking to do an elk hunt in 2018 as a 70th birthday present to myself. I have been on 5 elk hunts in Colorado, the last one was in 2012. I took this cow in 2001.

A photo from my 1999 hunt. Elk was taken by another hunter in camp and lucky for us, that bull dropped right in a ranch road.

Gene - how many points do you need in PA to get a tag? I know they have a small herd but never considered the state because of it. New Mexico has some monsters. I might do Colorado OTC. After doing some research there are some good public land areas to consider. We'll see.

PA is strictly the luck of the draw. I have 14 chances in the draw along many others that have applied since the beginning of the elk hunt. The good thing about PA is that there is no restriction on non residents in the draw, such as NH or ME moose where only a small percentage of the tags are allocated for non residents.

Getting ready.
Getting ready.
I've been hiking up West Peak three times a week for last few months. Usually 2-3 miles depending on the route. Most times I just go up and down the same trails to train. Put this rock and a few others in so pack weighs 50lbs on my heavy days. Feeling the weight is GOOD. The mountains are unforgiving....so I train hard. So how are you other guys training?
From: Gene
23-Aug-17
Bloodtrail - I hike with my pack on with plastic Quart bottles filled with water. If you need a drink, you have it on your back. If you need to lose some of the weight on your back, just empty some bottles. There won't be an elk trip for me this year. I got the results from PA - "unsuccessful". I am looking forward to my annual grouse hunt to Maine in late October.

BloodTrail - I LOVE your training. Right to the point, simple, and best of all, when you master one rock, use a bigger one :)!

Believe me guys, Bloodtrail stays in shape in the off season, so I have to believe that his training is extreme. And at the end of his hike, he can say he got his rocks off! Sorry, couldn't pass it up.
