While normally a OTC hunter, and burned 3 PP last year on 1st rifle hunting GMU 500 and the most sign I saw on public land was the lower elevation Foster Cline SWA, which is mostly a fishing area. The area had a absolute ton of elk beds and elk poop in the willows. The elk really like that riparian zone. I ended up though on a referral hunting upper Trout Creek on NE side of Mt. Silverheels, and did not connect. I was humbled for sure. It was rough, 35 MPH winds every day, blue skies, elk buried in dense timber, yet the area near timber line drop dead beautiful high country. I did though end up finding a series of mushy wallows that had alot of earlier sign of elk during Aug-Sept. I could elaborate on a PM.
