Question about target

Just broke down and got a new "elkton outdoors" target, supposed to be some kind of self-healing foam. Shot five arrows and it took me about ten minutes and ten curse words to get them out. Anybody have this type of target? Should I expect this target to soften up, or did I just buy myself a shockingly-expensive headache?

Jeb, I'm not sure about the target, but I know they.make a lube for your arrows, so they can be pulled out easier. Yes, I left it open for alot of jokes, but the lube is real. I'll see if I can find mine and let you know the name.

I bought a rinehardt deer target. Same thing. You literally have to stand on it to get my eastern axis arrows out of it. I don't even bother shooting it anymore.

Brutal guys! Bummer to hear Jeb. serious question, do any of you use an "arrow puller" tool? I use one on my 3d target and it helps, but, thats not as bad as what you all are describing!

The arrow puller helps a bit, lube helps a lot! (Insert joke here) Ever since I switched to the full metal jackets I haven't had a problem with it. The smaller diameter and aluminum shell makes it easier. Sorry about the target Jeb. I suggest lots of lube and pull it really hard. Sorry, had to go there. :-)

It'll soften up. Rineharts are just like that. Kind of a bitch at first, but better than blasting through them in a couple months.

Get an "Arrow Lube Tube." You can buy one for around ten bucks... they're sold on a number of archery supply websites. I have one... after it ran out of lube, I just started spraying WD40 into it... works great.

Thanks all, I like the lubrication idea. My only concern is the smell. Out in the woods I am concerned that the smell of the lube will overpower the smell of my cologne and cigars.

By the way, WD40 is probably mankind's greatest invention.

Right with you Jeb on the scent. I dont want that lube on the moleskin of my arrow rest.

Duct tape Jeb... they are tied. Need it looser: WD40. Need it tighter: Duct tape. Works every time :)
Eastie, you owe me a computer, just spit my dunks all over the key board reading your post. If any of you ever visit the CT page, there is a guy who's handle is Notme. Seems like a great guy, and funny. But wholly smokes, everything can become, well, a lube joke if you follow me. You may have tied his level of joke application in one post Eastie :)

Thanks Will! We're still all adolescent boys running around in the woods, we never change. With that comes the adolescent humor, farts = funny, lube= funny, no mom jokes, etc. :-)

Cheaper way to do it is use a bar of soap. Every few shots run the bar of soap on the arrows. The speed of the arrows heats the target material up and then it sticks like glue. "Just give the ol arrow a few strokes of soap", wink emojy! Smell will wash away easily.

Slick 50 silicone lube is the stuff you want. No smell at all and when you pair it with a rubber arrow puller you shouldn't have an issue pulling arrows. My dad shoots a crossbow, his bolts used to suck pulling from the target. Used slick 50 and a cheap allen company arrow puller and it was night and day, he can pull his own arrows now.

Thanks for all the good suggestions. I was thinking about options which we have around the house, so thanks in particular GMC regarding the soap idea, because I had been gearing up to try mayonnaise.
