I have noticed an unnaturally skinny doe on our property via. trailcam. Any thoughts of what may be wrong with her? I have included another doe that I would call normal for this time of year. Is there a better way? Posting a like to the photo from somewhere? I'm pretty new to this forum

Looks like her momma is in the lower picture. Looks like a yearling for sure, but guessing what's wrong with her is a crap shoot. I'd imagine intestinal or an injury only because here (assumed) mother looks healthy, which omits diet in my opinion. I'm surprised she made it this long.

I thought the same about her being a yearling. Though she looked very malnourished, she has a very good looking new coat, so who knows.

What is the date on that photo?

I would call your warden and talk about it. They might want this deer to be taken out, especially if she hangs around the same area most of the time. Are you in a known CWD area? She is either not able to eat or not digesting food and turning it into muscle for whatever reason.

Photo date was the 23rd of July. No, I am nowhere near any CWD area, towards NW of MN. I have only had cameras out for a week and have only seen her once. The rest of the heard, I would guess roughly 20 or so different deer I have seen so far, all look very healthy.

I think this one is tough. If the DNR says take it out and you agree are you going to start hunting for her? I sure would not want to put the hunting pressure on my land this time of year. Also she appears to have two healthy fawns. Personally I would just run my cameras and see what Mother Nature does. I know the deer might die a horrible death but she also might come around. If you get more pictures or information to keep us updated.

BowhuntingDoug, I believe his post says the doe with two fawns is a different doe. I would try to get a better photo of the doe and show it to the DNR. Her muscle tone, especially in the, should is not looking normal. It could be one of many health issues but the DNR should be notified. Possibly only for her unable to digest food, some blockage maybe, but might be something worse,

Like others have stated, a multitude of possibilities. Perhaps vehicular hit, tangle with a predator. Anyway you slice it, the musculature is abnormal. Nature can seem cruel, but it will sort out. It does warrant notifying DNR in case they want to rule out causes of malady.

after looking more closely on the high resolution photo I downloaded. It appears she has something hanging from her jaw. Unfortunately the site isn't letting me post the photo.

Here is a link to the better photo. I think she had a run in with a vehicle. That almost looks like her jawbone sticking out of her face, with the darker portion on the end being teeth? If so....that's unfortunate, she will not be around much longer.

In my experience DNR only cares if there are a bunch of sick deer in a relatively small area. But if they don't get reported, DNR will never know. Give them a data point so they can do the science.

I know we kill these animals for sport but I can't help but feel bad when I see one suffering like that. I wonder if you could get permission from your local warden to put her out of her misery. It might be worth asking.

I agree crusader, very sad and slow way for her to go. I am going to contact our local game warden about putting her down, the only problem being I have only seen her once in a few weeks. Might not be a local
