Who plans on hunting the opener?

We need a new actual hunting topic. I probably won't be going out next weekend. I really dislike hunting in hot weather. If I don't enjoy it, I don't go. I can get some work stuff done and "bank" time for some weekday coldfront hunts.
I hunt almost every day. I wear shorts and dress in my stand if it gets cool. Mostly hunt field edges early. I basically watch the ladies come out to feed with their little ones. Occasionally a decent buck shows his face. Got a few nice bucks in the area feeding on the alfalfa and soybeans.
I'll be out for sure. I'll hunt the first 5 days in Waupaca and Portage and Shawano Counties, then back home to Milwaukee and reality. Hoping to catch a few bachelor groups hanging out, but will definitely be happy to start filling the freezer with a doe.
Bear hunting. Don't deer hunt till bear season is over.
I'll be hunting locally for the first few days. Then I'll fish for a while and only hunt in Oct if things line up.
Taking my first "rutcation" this year camping in Marinette.
Football on TV and dream of Prancer on my meat poll make autumn my favorite time of the year.
I have to photograph a race Saturday but will at least check cams on Sunday afternoon.
The temps look good so it should be a good opener.
I will be out, temps will be comfortable with cooler temps predicted for the evening. Rain is supposed to hold of until after sunset.
Collin and I will be out sat morn on our horse farm in SE WI. We are leaving the following Friday night for a two day hunt at my bro in laws property.
current forecast is 79 degrees on saturday and 68 on sunday.....i'll be waiting till sunday
I plan on going both days this weekend in SE WI. It does look warm, but I confirmed the butcher will have a overnight freezer trailer available.
Monday is the start for me. Looking forward to the early season. I've got my eye on 3 real nice public land bucks. Lots and lots of daylight pictures. Looks like they might stay around.
I promised my wife I wouldn't hunt until I finished 15 and 16 taxes. I don't see me out there any time soon.
I might. I have a nice mature hanging around and should probably take care of him before someone else does. Normally the matures don't show up here until the rut, but this year is different. I usually don't hunt until I see them either live or on cam. The worry is dealing with the butchering while it is warm. I suppose I need to butcher him same day if it takes all night. How long can he safely hang in warm temps?
"How long can he safely hang in warm temps?"
I don't risk it if it's as warm as it will be this weekend. I get the guts out as soon as possible. If I can't start cutting it within 2 hours I stuff it with blocks of ice. But all you would really have to do is skin and quarter. That is if you have an extra fridge or big coolers. For just that reason I have 4 chest freezers and 2 extra fridges in the shed.
I'm starting in on the 15th. Michigan Bear.
"How long can he safely hang in warm temps?"
I do like Rut does and pack the chest cavity with ice if I can't get to cutting with in a couple hours. But I use 1 gallon milk jugs filled with water and frozen, keeps the unwanted moisture from the melting ice off the meat and off my garage floor. Another thing that helps is getting the hide off ASAP. I cover with an old bed sheet once the hide is removed to keep dirt and bugs off the meat. The hide will help retain heat, and the sooner you get that off the quicker the body will cool down.
Konk1...+1. I've never done the gallon jug thing. Thx for that. Our nights are now cool enough that hanging overnight is fine. I definitely would NOT leave a dear lay overnight for a next day recovery though. I'd chase that sob all night if I had to.
83 sat so no I will pass. Maybe Sunday but there's plenty of days ahead. Hunt smarter not harder, until the rut that is.
I'll be out! Never know when you're gonna kick the bucket. Don't waste a day in the woods.
Why do the photos post sideways?
I'll be out Saturday and Sunday. I just need to sit in a tree and see a deer. Think about stuff and be thankful for another bow season and being in the woods.
I NEVER missed an opener and shot my two best whitetails sitting in the sweltering heat opening weekends. One was in the morning leading a bachelor group to bed. The other was in the evening as he was leaving a thick bedding area. Bring on the heat because it filters out the hunters and the bucks are totally relaxed.
Last week I hunted stupid heat in Idaho chasing elk. Same deal. All the hunters stayed home waiting for better weather. I had every drainage to myself. Tagged out on Thursday and now I have enough vacation to come back home to WI!!
I won't be hunting opener, a little too warm for me. I will be out checking cam, and scouting a new public land spot.
I'll be out for a few hours each morning & evening .
Going to be warm but no big deal . Whacked a handfull of Mulies in 100 degree heat in UT& NV . No problem cooling down the meat .
Biggest issue I see Saturday will be BUGS .
I'll wait for the coming week . I'm not into dealing with a deer quick because of the heat . But I can go anytime . Probably Monday after rain on Sunday .
Its gonna be near 90 degrees Saturday so I will more then likely pass. But Sunday the high is in the low 70s. Anyway I have to give the deer 24 hours to find the bait:)
I'll be out with my son and nephew for the morning hunts. This is my 26yr old nephews first bow hunt and he's in a great spot between corn, a creek, and the bedding area. I can't wait to see his reaction. Also my 6yr old grandson is tagging along to get "the fever". Going to be a great year weather we harvest one or not. A lot of firsts!!
Ram Man , wish your nephew success from me . Nothing like your first year of bowhunting .
Make sure you guys try and get out Sunday eve or monday eve. I believe they are both setting up to be great hunting with the weather change.
I love hunting as much as the next guy but.......lol our 4 1/2 month season is too short!?
Lol ok... September 16th till January 31st (December for the rest of the state). It's math....not an opinion...
9 weekends only....but others are the fair weather hunters? Why quit at 9 day gun hunt?
Good luck in the morning. I'm stuck working and my son has a football game in the afternoon so we won't get out until Sunday.
Hi Goat are you new to Wisconsin bowsite?
Great G.O.A.T.! But please don't look down on others.
The GOAT, one post you are saying you don't miss a day of the bow season. Next you are saying you only hunt weekends. I question your commitment to bow hunting if you let something like work stop you.
I'll be out in the morning testing the theory whether deer are bothered by the smell of a thermocell.
We all know who GOAT WAS...
"We all know who GOAT WAS... "
Yep. The mods are spot on right now. Now he's been booted for like the 210th time.
I've been up in northern WI bear hunting. Sitting 5-6 hrs in these temps (> 80 degrees) with the bugs has been less than pleasurable.
Got with a1/4 mile of my stand when then sky became fireworks. Had to get out of dodge and miss the first operation I can recall since 1974. There will be time, right now, trees need the fall rain.
Good luck to those unaffected by AM storms.
Best of luck to all. Thinking about you guys with weather and bugs. I'm strapped in at work. I'd prefer the bugs, storms and heat.
I'm suppose to be working on taxes. Instead I'm vegetating on the Bowsite.
First morning out and man did it feel good to be in a stand again. Nephew saw a coyote at 30 yards and passed him up.?? Grandson had a great time watching 30 turkeys play around all morning. No deer but a great day in the woods.
Only mommas and little ones this morning. I planted myself by water and acorns for the afternoon. Hoping to see some hungry and thirsty deer!
im confused by the whole goat thing.....
Let one of the bigger deer that I've ever passed, walk last night
My son was able to fill his Fort McCoy bonus antlerless tag last night on a mature doe. My hunt got cut short last night, in helping him track his deer. Always fun times with my boy. Saturday evening had 5 different doe come thru, all were just skirting my recurve range, so they got a pass.

This guy got passed up this weekend
MBA, that's what they call hunting. Sometimes it is better to watch and harvest with your eye/camera. It raises the level of outdoor enjoyment when you have out-foxed a deer that size waiting for yet a bigger one. That is what keeps me in the woods.
