Who else will be going out opening day in NH Friday and what unit? I'll be heading out in the afternoon. Hunting unit K or M depending on the weather. Cannot wait to be in a tree stand again. September can be (arguably) the best time of year to hunt. I am seeing deer about every other day within a 3 mile radius of my house just on my daily drive. Have spotted some nice bucks during daylight too.
Ill be out Friday morning and afternoon. My "tough" senior schedule up here allows me to hunt just about every day:) lol. Good luck to you sir.
I will be out Monday morning!!!! Can't wait to be in a tree
I'll be out opening morning in Unit M. can't wait to get back at it! good luck to all
I have the chance, but due to likely hood of thunder and high temps I am going to make a "game time" decision about hunting CT on Friday PM. I can go Monday and maybe Tuesday, so I may hold off till next week...
I also will be out all weekend
I was going to go.... but then saw Moons is going....not going now... there won't be any deer left ;) Good luck, all! Post those Granite State Deer pix!!!
I'm like a school girl on Christmas Eve!! Good luck guys!
Good luck guys let us know how your day goes be out Monday
Up and ready heading out in a while let everyone's arrows fly straight today GOOD LUCK ALL
Heading in. Light drizzle and 63degrees. No wind. Good luck!
Moons it's been light for close to an hour and you haven't sealed the deal?
Haha nothing yet!! Absolutely soaked to the bone. Miserable!! Weather man says "light drizzle in the white mountains...ending around 6"... more like heaviest down pour of your life! I won't last very much longer...
Good luck to the rest of u guys, hope the weather is better
Nothing yet. No rain yet either Unit M.
Good luck. The end of the rain will hopefully bring you guys more action
I think that is funny,.. it sounds like Moons it messaging us from the hunt.
Heck after some time in a sit,.. I often remember finding myself looking for something to do,.. the forums might be just the thing! :)
Haha BB, I was. Bad Habit though! Gotta stay paying attention!!!
Weather is pretty crap for opening weekend. T-storms today, then humid and high of 80 next 2 days. Cant shoot em from inside the house though. Weather for next week looks better if the rain holds off.
Just a reminder for anyone that might get one the next few days... Do not let them hang. Get it to a butcher or get it cut up asap. And make sure to carry a "fly sock" in your pack. As soon as you gut your deer out get that thing wrapped up immediately so the flies don't get in it.
I love it Moons,..
I am still stuck waiting for my first venture out,.. so with you messaging it is sorta like living vicariously through you.
I hope others do the same from the stand, maybe a few photos too,.. I will send some when I get up there on first hunt.
Thanks Moons and keep us posted...
It has been deathly quiet where I'm at for a few hours now. No wind, no birds, no squirrels, no deer, nothing. Wonder if they know a storm is coming and already hunkered down. Gotten a couple of drops of rain every 20 min or so but only drops not real rain.
You guys know they're filming North Woods Law in NH now, right? You might get to be on TV!
Will you still talk to us when you're a famous movie star?
had a doe calling close by but couldn't spot her, maybe next time
Had a good morning 4 deer came by a at first light 2 doe and 2 skippers didn't take a shot let them get a free pass this time if it was a doe by her self well that another story did have this guy come by a little later wish I had a tag my trail cam got him riight in front of me would have been a 15 yrd shot
Hey cap, even with no harvest that's quite a sit.
Awesome sit! I got rained out early this am. Went back this afternoon with my buddy from home for his first hunt ever. Had really high hopes until the landowner showed up and started cutting down trees!! We relocated quickly to my plan B spot which is not as promising but still has some decent sign. Will be back out in the am at the plan A spot if nothing happens tonight..
Decided to play some Hookey and go to CT. I saw a doe on the way in, bumped her about 75yds fro where I was going - she was bedded. That was it, and the zillion acorns, many of which pelted me!
Awesome opening weekend despite how hot it was. It was actually dead Friday afternoon (after jumping a nice 6 pointer on the way in) and all day Saturday but yesterday morning was 10 degree cooler than sat morning and that really got them moving. Yesterday my buddy messed up on a really nice 8 pointer at 6:30am and then shot this doe at 8:30 am about 200 yards from me. I had 2 come in to 20 yards in the dark, then saw another deer at 7:15. Shortly after had a spike horn and a 4 pointer come right in on me. The 4 pointer had 3 points on one side and a big velvet spike on the other. I had him broadside at 15 feet. I came very close to letting one fly because of how unique he was but i really wanted to hold out for something 2.5 + yrs old. Very cool morning.
What took you so long! Ha
Nice work congrats!
Another quiet day for me. Had a lonely doe come by 60+yds to my left. She was calling for her friends but i didn't see them. That was about 2hrs ago.
It was my buddy that shot the doe, not me. But I will pass on the congratulations.
On a side note, I cant believe how nice people have been around here. Bumped into a guy checking his camera in a spot I was hunting. I apologized for setting up close to his camera as I didn't know. I said I wouldn't hunt there any more. He said to hunt freely any time I want and even to go further into his spot if I wanted. We exchanged numbers then 2 hours later I get a text. Its a picture of a real nice buck with the caption "got this guy on my camera 60 yards from your stand. Goodluck and hunt it all you want". Couldn't believe that.
Congrats on the doe and that is a cool hunter to meet Bigwoodsbucks22, there are really good people around
Awesome! Crazy how all you have to do is cross the boarder and you're in a "hunter friendly" atmosphere. People don't look at you like you have ten heads when you walk into the 7 Eleven with camo and face paint on. Great doe your buddy shot, and sounds like you've had some pretty good action yourself! Good luck!
Bucks 22 - It is great that you showed such respect and decency . Also great was the return kindness.
Moons 22 - I don't know where you are (Maybe mid/western ma ?) but I moved less than an hour away to the east approaching the cape and found a real nice community of hunter /friendly towns . There is an amazing amount of public land with hunter welcome signs and all , parking too ! . I'm still in disbelief that this is Ma, and not somewhere over the rainbow...
I Bet there is some good towns in other places as well . I Doubt we will start a thread on the exact locations but perhaps the experience of it. Best wishes for good experiences . - Pi
Pi, we're trying not to let the whole state know about the SouthCoast . . . besides, there's no deer in Z11, all the deer hang out in Zone 10!
Oops . Where ? I meant in deep southern RI and N. Carolina and Florida and Cuba. Just keep going and it gets better and better .... I haven't even heard of a deer sighting around here , It was a skinny cow miss reported .... Shhhh. And all the non-deer hunters here are massive in-breaded jerks that want to kill people and rape dogs ... It's Helter Skelter every one . Run for your lives or into zone 10 , keep running west while you can get out with your lives .... Help !!! they got me.....
Hahaha too funny. I've got some good spots in z10,9. But have had the neighbor express major concern to the landowner saying that he is "nervous the hunter will shoot my kids/dog". Clearly an idiot. He called the cops and it was a big to do. He has recently moved... maybe because of the big scary "hunter"...??!
Have also had town workers try to tell me that no body was allowed to hunt "this land". Oh really? Says who? I'm on private property buddy mind your own business.
Another neighbor snooped her way over to the landowners driveway when I was showing him the nice 8pt I had just killed. Have never seen someone cry so hysterically. You would've thought I had just killed her mother or something.
It's a love hate relationship for me with these spots. They're great because they're loaded with deer, but it seems like every year it's something.
Nothing like this has ever happened to me in the great state of NH! But..... I definitely kill way more deer in ma
Moons, if you ever get sick of all those crappy interactions with MA anti's I'd be happy to take over those spots for you :)
Hahaha when that say comes you'll be the first one I call
I won't stay up waiting...
