Sitting atop Ligonier mountain..... Gooseberry?

29-Sep-17
Did you pick one and peel it open? I'd like to see a close up of the nuts. Leaves look like hickory. Are they really berries?

Doesn't look gooseberry leaves. Got a picture of the bark? Size and overall shape of the tree and limbs? Length of leaves? Size of berries?

Without more info, the leaves and berries look like black cherry to me... but if the picture was just taken, it seems to be behind where our cherries are now. Many of them here are pertinear bald now.... no rain.

American Mountain Ash to be specific. Thanks Ed! 2 types of American and Northern. Northern has rounded leave edges not pointed like the American. Berries are edible but tart- best eaten after a couple frosts. They stay on the tree after the leaves have fallen.

Youtube- "mountain ash berries edible" or "Rowan Berries" I wonder if the emerald ash borer had an effect on these? Thanks!
